Chinese CDs Recommendation/Discussion

Featured Replies

Actually I don't even know about her until I downloaded her 2006 & 2009 albums last year from Amped free from (Singtel).

Her rare 2010 July concert in Taipei legacy concert was fabulous. I like her mellow voice even she hit 40, and still look  drop dead gorgeous. She was in Singapore last month for the Rock 30 anniversary concert.

Purchases from the past few months.  My fav Beyond album, a tribute to their lead singer, I own the normal CD version from years ago but have not made any comparison.  Impressive Voices was highly recommended by Francis Wu.  When it was played at DH's place, everybody stopped what they were doing and just listened (correct?  I didn't exaggerate rite?).  I had eastendgirl's blessings to buy this Haha.  Next, my all-time fav George Lam CD, damn good recording.  Lastly, Sandy Lam's hits on XRCD.  Contains all the Sandy Lam songs I love on high-fidelity...  The last 2 I got from hifi-cd.com, quite cheap too

Alan Tam on SACD, found it at That CD Shop a couple of months back.  This one got me on a SACD hunt around Singapore which landed me some awesome stuff like the ET soundtrack and Human League's Dare.  Joseph Koo on SACD, orchestra pieces of his TVB themes (hifi-cd.com).  One of my fav Faye Wong albums on XRCD and lastly, fresh from the presses, a compilation of Eason Chan's mandarin hits on AQCD (new company... not bad at all) but damnit, it doesn't have 对不起谢谢

My complete (?) Lily Chan collection.  Did I miss any?

WOW!  You are really a hardcore Lily Chen fan. Not sure if you missed out any...

I counted 7 CDs from your collections which I owned. Must thank you because I learnt about her from your postings here. I really like her voice.

BTW, out of the four CDs in your last photo, which ones are good? I got the Lily on Teresa one (which is very good) but not the other three so wondering which ones are good. Thanks.

Thanks Wukong bro, it's definitely 农情.  The best one, Chris Babida's arrangements coupled with Lily's sublimed voice send me to heaven each time. The one on the top right corner is also a collaboration with Babida but only selected songs stand out.  However Lily's rendition of Faye Wong's 如风 is IMHO worth getting the CD.  The one on the bottom left corner, I just got it 2 days ago, 2 CD collection of her 2010 concert in HK.  Nice recording but if u just need to get 1 then 农情 is the ONE

Thanks Bro...looks like I have 3 more of her CDs to collect!  Ha...ha...

BTW, I remember reading that you ripped some of these CDs (in case of breakage of the CDs like those HQ ones). When you play back these ripped songs are their sound quality as good as playing them direct from the CDs? What format you ripped to?

I ripped it on apple lossless. Playing it thru my iPod it sounds very close to the actual CD

Had a great dim sum lunch at Kreta Ayer ;D then it's a visit to my old music haunt 富良.  I remember during my sec schooling days I practically come here once a week to get my CD fix. What better way to top the afternoon.

Nothing really to buy... Prices are not as cheap as the good ole days. But really wanted to buy st. Chance upon this 周华健, 黑胶2CD, HD Mastering, K2HD 192Hz sampling for only $10.90. There are lots more tech specs printed... Dammit I am a sucker for these tech specs!!  The whole package is like 1/3 of an A4 paper. I dun know how it will fit on my shelf but had to get it to try.

When I pop it into my car stereo, me and wifey were bombarded with the HIGH treble. It sounds like Emil is singing so far away but the damn cymbals is right next to the mic!!! My wifey says Emil is clanging an ovaltine 罐子 right next to our ears Haha. Really bad recording but I think at one time, not long ago I would say this is good Haha. I have changed. Beware bros... This one I will put it on my "Lesson Learned" shelf, next to it is my $48 cracked 蔡琴 SHM CD

Have a great weekend everybody 8)

This is available in Shenzhen for 10 RMB!!......... ;D

Bro, if it's good, it won't be this cheap!..... 8)

OMG!!! That's like less than $2 LOL

The packaging cost looks more than $2. How e heck did these guys do it?  Amazing

Sacd and k2hd logos easy to print. Hehe.

Saw such cd at NUH bookstore as well. The packaging is indeed very nice, giving a false illusion that the cd quality is good

The CD cover did not represent the CD quality inside. ;D ;D ;D

No only the CD recording is bad, be careful of the hardboard casing too. It is made from bleached recycled rotten particle board. Do not store it with your precious CD collections. A CD collector told me he bought a few such CDs only to find maggots from the hardboard casings one day!

Heads UP!!!

Kit Chan latest CD has an audiophile version now. Mastered by Doug Sax at The Mastering Lab USA.  $25.50 from NDV

Hi bro,

Where is NDV?

Cheers

Hi bro,

Where is NDV?

Cheers

ndv is new disc village at adelphi

i too bought the kit chan album mastered by doug sax and boy was i blown away

goh kheng long is really talented at music arrangement

Damm! I just bought the normal version.. Ugh! How much is the remastered version?

It's $25.50 from NDV... I have this version but have not listened to the original so can't compare.  My suggestion - don't buy it again unless u really like the album

A complaint abt the Kit Chan album - nope... Not the songs which are great. Superb arrangements too. I simply hate the white foam centre hub - I have a David Tao album that uses the same concept and it won't stay on there for a long time!!! At least this one came in a box so I can at least put the cd in a sleeve and put it in the box. Whoever designed this Kit Chan CD should be fired. So cheapskate and once the hub falls off, it is either we super-glue again or we stuck the cd between the cardboard pieces.  >:(

yes i second that!

Down with all the stupid white button foam centers!

Bro, faster listen to the remastered one and let us know if its worth the money. Hahaha! I wanna buy it and sync to my ipod. :D

I only have the remastered one bro

Just bot this an hour ago.  101 Chinese songs remastered in HDCD.  Get it from MJ for $20.90 only for 6 HDCDs :o I checked Gramo and CD Rama which sells this for $26.90... Don't know whether MJ priced it wrong so if u want it u know what to do eh ;D

Seems a bit cheap even at $26! Any good?

It's definitely HDCD. Very good mastering  :o

Hmmm I never figured you to listen to Mandarin stuff

*flame on suit* ON ;D
