I'm hoping to tap into the great wealth of community knowledge that makes SNA great.

My pool need painting. We had it done as part of a reno about six years ago and it's already looking pretty sad and sorry (I'm told that since lead-paint was banned, pool paint doesn't last nearly as long as it used to).

Just wondering if anyone can recommend someone for the job in Melbourne?

Thanks !

It's not a big field of subbies your talking about. Ring some pool installers and ask them and also pool shops.

I work for 3 concrete pool builders and only one will do fibreglass finish and as for paint...none of them do it and that might be location dependant(weather, your  in the South I'm in the North)

Weeks ago I rang three installers and sent emails to a couple of other whose websites claim they do pool painting.

Not a single reply.

My usual pool shop does not recommend anyone.

The guy who did the painting during my reno seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth

@sir sanders zingmore given the paints used are generally pretty specific at the 'lasts five years or longer' end of things I'd call one of the vendors e.g. BG Pool, and ask after their distributors (Pool Paint Melbourne is one). Epotec is another (DIY Pool Paint is a disty).

If you're half handy I'd paint it yourself after a good clean and etch back. At this time of year a painter isn't going to be cheap (and less available).

Must have been a bad experience for him or he's still in there.

I'd suggest waiting until Summer is over. It is going to be a much easier job to have done when the weather is cooler and there is less work on.

It is a liner that gets fitted over the existing surface. Anti bacterial to avoid black spots and comes in different colors.

Could could just save up and tile it, though it's not a small undertaking.

Honestly painting isn't hard - the prep needs work, and most epoxies aren't too hard to work with in an open environment. Kinda favours DIY.

If tiling is a bit of a stretch, a quartz aggregate and a tile band at the waterline maybe? Looks bloody awesome, easy application, not too costly and lasts a very long time.

But painting... I'd give it a crack. Some good paints out there with minimum recoat times (to 5 hours), no isocyanates, easy mixing. They go on pretty thick so 2 coats usually and you're done. You might find some distys would recommend general labourers or painters to do the work.

I can draw pools, but I reckon if you sent me a photo of yours I could probably paint it.

If you go down the DIY path (I would, because every time I pay a tradie I could have done a better job myself), here's one tip for you:

Our pool is covered in this pebble mix stuff. Collects the algae a bit during the winter, but doesn't ever need repainting. But you could try Spotless Trades, as they do a lot of wet-work, including pool painting, tiling and waterproofing.

Most popular pool coating in 'straya, and very good.

all great ideas but I'm still looking for a recommendation for someone who can actually do the painting/tiling/quartz aggregating/pebble mixing/fibreglassing/expoxying

Seriously - call the product manufacturer or distributors and ask for their installers.

You'll probably get more traction with aggregate.
