Full range, in a non ideal room powered by Tubes hence i got the sub to experiment.  I knew  F12SE would be too small, but i wanted to test Rythmik out before i commit to pair of 15s.

My room is not that big but its open floorspace with another lounge and kitchen.

I just had realestate agent over today, i'm either knocking down and building bigger house with dedicated room or selling and getting something more ideal.. :)

im pretty confident there's a fundamental issue with the measurement process somewhere.  Having a 40db drop between 125hz to 45hz  is not right no matter what room shape/size.  What that would sound like is if the bass drivers from both speakers were disconnected or wired out of phase. Im not joking!

Im no expert on REW, but more than happy to run through and verify the process in person if it is something you are interested in.  I also have a usb umik1 with calibration file that could try.

  • Lumin T2 vs my old Node 2i initially it was hard to tell difference as I would need to get up walk 3m to change input.    So I moved the whole rack.... next to me lol.    Comparing

  • I think I'm done for now.    Edit.. Maybe just diffuser. Lol

  • Took these bad boys out of storage. Only issue is I don't have a amp to drive them.  Three years have gone past soooo quick!   Think i need to start only fans page to fund rest of the system

Sounds like fun..! Nothing beat a dedicated room… From my experience, it brought average electronics like mine to whole new level. I listened to many mega $$ electronics in an average room and they sounded very average to majority…!

Having said that, you could take on my residency… All hard works had been invested….! I can move the boss and her immediate family member to Dailketh in trade of new speakers…! Currently dreaming Marten CS2! 😍😵💫🥺😫

Yeah your room looks great. i watched youtube where some people had very expensive gear and when they talk on the mic room sounds like they are in a toilet.

I want to go Dalkeith too but i dont want a mortgage  haha

JUst seen this. I think i may have same issue.

@Satanica @andyr @tuyen

Thanks guys Fixed it.

I reinstalled new version of REW, used different usb cable on umik, relocated the whole rack so i can postion sub into more ideal location. Nothing has changed, then i  unchecked "Enable Audio Enhancement"  found some info online and fixed it.

Funny enough even tho the graph was off it still pointed me in the right direction.  Ill do more fine tuning now as i just set sub on 0 phase but yeah IT WORKS!

thanks a lot. :)

If your orange line is "sub on" - then yes, you seem to have fixed it.  :thumb:

But I have one query:

  • What frequency is your sub roll-off frequ set to?  100Hz?

Orange is just about all it can give, volume 95%.   Extension is ( 14hz,28hz,20hz )Damping (Low,Hi,Mid)    I prefer on all tests 20hz with hi damping. Less SPL but sounds better to me. 14hz makes it work harder and windows shake more but not what im after.  These settings i dont change.

THen the crossover for orange is 120hz with Line in Lowpass on 80hz/24  this setting is for smaller speakers from what ive read but it seems to get rid of my issues at 70hz and 100hz.   I need to listen to it more but i dont prefer this setting is overpowers speaker.

Blue like is set to 50hz on crossover with line in lowpass set to 50hz/24, it compliments speakers more but still issues at 70-100hz

I may play around with orange and lower the volume see how that goes.

**edit: green is no sub now. but that looks weird too 14hz..

Your orange line is pretty damn good, IMO!  :thumb:

With this measurement, you have got rid of the sharp dip at 100Hz that shows on the blue & green lines.  Did you change the sub phase control for this measurement?

I too have set my Rythmik plate amp controls to:

  • extension - 20Hz
  • damping - Hi.

Yeah i took 3 readings every 5 notches from 0ms to 180ms.  This probably made most difference, i found it seems happy at 5notches away from 180ms.

One thing im not sure with is PEQ, do you use that? ive got mine on off still i do have minidsp but ill play with that once i get another sub  :)

Yeah these are great! F12 as well?  my KRK was 2500$ when i got it i think and this just destroys it in SQL.

Move to Dalkeith and upgrade new speakers at the same time! That’s very rich 😍

Never missed that part just don’t know how to comment because then my gears are below average 🤣

Well the REW graph shows it's pretty damn good - so keep it there!  :thumb:

From memory, my PEQ is turned off (sorry, can't check atm - the Rythmik is at the beach house).

Yes, F12.  I bought it about 15 years ago, though - so prolly have an earlier plate amp to yours.

Love that sub definitely on the right direction. Next step get some 15"s see how they go. Ideally want the sub driver to be bigger than woofer on the strads.

Sorry few bad words at the end.

This weekend will turn on PEQ and have a play. Maybe even out those peaks.

Need to get new RCA cord, one feeding rythmik is a 8$ one that comes with TV haha.

Sounds pretty good hey…, except at the end with no bass and only midrange… However it sounded very natural…, likes the artist was actually there swearing! 🧐

I am hopeless with my umik-2 and rew atm. Need spend more times to do these filters as room correction for Roon/HQPlayer.

😂😂😂 👍

Best to avoid umik if you don't want to spend more money.

I haven't done any EQ. But plenty of more room treatment I want to get.

Fond very good video on measurements today and rew. Guy has 100 subscribers but it has got to be the most informative video I've seen. I'll try find it.  So much to learn in this field. Love it.

Quiet the opposite. I was hoping with umik and REW, I don’t need to further spending…, new speakers that is… 🥺😩

Those are huge! I don't know I would rather Wilsons xvx or even JBL Everest and spend rest on wine.

Had massive win last two days. Recently since moving the rack ive noticed so much more noise, hum coming from the speakers. So much so that i couldnt listen to music any more. It was that irritating.

Ive re arranged the cables, move the preamp away from the rack. Removed the sub from the system as this was the latest addition. In the end i used extension cord from laundry..... as i know this runs on separate circuit breaker and voilà. Both power amps are now powered from laundry lol. This just shows the importance's of having dedicated power line.

This morning i decided to play around with sub. I played Tone from 20hz up to 300hz and observed where my vibrations were coming from. I had few issues windows shaking at 45hz, half full beer bottle no **** was resonating like crazy and there is crack in my glass on front door that was high pitched buzzing when sub was playing 100 odd hertz.

i decided to play around with PEQ,. I boosted it 3db on 76hz to bump to even out the frequency. This made a measurable change but not enough. So i went back and reduced 44hz  by roughly -6db 0 bandwidth as there was a decent peak there. This was a big win in my books, frequency looked much more even and it reduced the damn windows shacking.

Very impressed with 12" Rythmik, im thinking of placing an order on 15s.  12" Is fabulous just too small for my open space not enough headroom in it.

RED - Before PEQ

GREEN - PEQ ON -6db on 44hz with  bandwidth in middle. Also increase the SPL every so slightly, now that it wasnt working soo hard at 44hz :)

Now, need to read up on waterfalls and RT60 measurements.

Before room treated with acoustic foam  and after DIY treatment.

HxWxD

2x Membrane absorbers  1200x600x300mm

1x Helmholtz resonator `600x1200x450mm

2 x 1200x580x80mm Porous absorber Panels  (2 more to make)

2x 1200x580x184mm Porous absorber Panels

and one fu*ked up room.

Pros

It works, very well. I've discovered bass from main speakers.

Cons

Expensive

time consuming

Takes up a lot of space

Keep getting asked, What are all those boxes?

Will work on diffuser next but that will get expensive so might take a while to complete.

Diffuser With two 1200x580x75mm polyester batts on the side.

I drew up the diffusers base on Tim Perry design.

They look small compared to amps and speakers. That's because rack is 1m away from the wall.
