  • Got the tt up to a decent height now. The pillars and tubular metals have all been filled with either expanding foam or that + blast grit to dampen unwanted resonance.  Perhaps a better set of feet

Looks great Frank, would love to hear your system again soon

Here's a different looking ME1400, modified  by winovate here in Melbourne i believe.

That looks different in a good way

More likely one built by Peter Stein. Several ME1500 and ME1400 amps were built with gold plated front panels, largely to suit the Chinese market. The ME1500 required almost 1/2 oz of gold!

:hiccup  :hiccup :hiccup  :hiccup  :hiccup  :hiccup  Only they could like it, I'd have to be drunk to like that.

Does the letter M after the word amplifier suggest it is or was supposed to be a monobloc?.

Good catch. That may be one of the very rare ME1400 monos. 24 output devices per channel, 40 Watts Class A and could deliver 200 Amps. I haven't seen one for a very long time.

Stereo is on the move, hope to be in by Xmas.

5 Babbage st, Belair SA 5052 - if anyone can load the pictures from realestate.com.au it would help. My better half says I can have the downstairs. Will need some work but a reasonable size to start

Congrats Frank!

Housewarming GTG perhaps?

:)

The room is going to need some work to 'tame' it, rug and probably side/ceiling bits. Will want some guinea pigs to listen and offer sage advice also - definitely.

cr!pes Frank

I grew up on Gloucester Ave, just near Caroline Ave, our first house was in Hawker Ave (down where the sun doesn't shine much) and my brother's brief first marriage was in Peppermint Ave.  All of these places are very close to your house!

Your house didn't actually exist when I was in Belair.

I expect you will have some nice cross-country bike rides nearby, eg going down to Panorama.

Good luck with the move - let us know if we can help.

ps  I suspect downstairs will make a very good cellar..  Also, you are literally just around the corner from teddyboy, and (I suspect) not far from rotur!

Hey Frank,

If you need a hand moving yell out, happy to help. I have room measurements gear, just a Behringer Mic and Pre and REW so nothing fancy but it will be very handy. I just need to work out how to use it :)

Nice size room and a couple of rugs should help along with some soft furnishings.

Nice ME amps.  My ME550-II would look like a baby next to those! Speaking of ME amps, does anyone own an ME555 (3 channel version of the 550-II).  Long ago I considered getting one to power the 3 front channels but my budget couldn't extend that far unfortunately. Wish I bought it at the time, would've made a great system.

Nice room and love the views Frank!Well done.

Some questions re new room....dedicated power?  I see a lot of discussion on dedicated power lines, currently I have a plethora of power boards, so will having seperate lines for power-amps, speakers (2905's need power), pre-amps, tt & cd player?  And if so, can that many be arranged? Or should I get seperate lines for the 1st three and then do I use something like a THOR for say the tt/cd player?

Also, if new lines are warrented, what amperage, 20A?

Edited by frankn

frankn(stein), how many plugs will you need?

My recommendation is a passive power conditioner. I highly recommend Ayre (PM me as I know someone that can supply).  They have 4 plugs to plug into. Then you usually only need 2-3 dedicated power lines.

Of course there are other brands and this depends on your power, in your system, in your home.

frankn(stein),

that is very good.  The ideal name for Frank's amplifiers.  His ME's of course.

They are indeed "Frankn-Stein's".  FranknStein I and FranknStein II to be precise.

LOL!

HaHaHaHa, I often call them that.

Hi Benjie - I had hoped you might also comment on the dedicated lines given your background.  Any thoughts?

Will definitely get some measurements underway once I've got at least a big rug and some furniture in.... thinking a couple of recliners and a sofa, or simply recliners as this is going to be "my" room according to shee who is sometimes obeyed.

Sal beat me this time, last time she was away I purchesed a TV and bits, so when I was away she purchased a house!  Can't think what the next "step up" will be.......... some bloody big amps & new speakers perhaps??  Just kidding.

Getting power sorted, furniture, room treatments, fixing up the 2nd room (shed) will take a bit I think.  Then there is the new BBQ, I've got my eye on a combined wood smoker and grill + a new webber
