jazzman1974
Hey guys, finally started on converting my front room to my theatre. Its not an ideal room, with bay windows, open doorway, and some less than ideal dimensions. But its what I have, and I'll make the most of it. My system will consist of the following: Krix MX-10 Wall of Sound Krix Dynamix Surround x 4 Krix Atmos Inceiling 20 deg x 2 Krix Atmospherix A20 x 2 Yamaha RX A3080 Yamaha PX-5 (for the subs) Emotiva XPA-3 Gen 3 for LCR Epson TW9400 150" AT Cinemascope screen Panansonic DMRUBT1GLK 4k Bluray player/HDD NVidia Sheild TV Pro I will be building a stud wall for the Krix speakers, as well as the screen. Pics of the room before starting.
jazzman1974
Has anyone wondered what a carload of Krix MX-10, surrounds, in ceilings, amps and projector look like?? I picked these up last week... Even bought home the pallet the MX-10 was delivered on. Might try to incorporate the Krix stenciling somewhere

jazzman1974
I bought the below couch from a second hand store - was a Harvey Norman store return. Brand new, but half the price....
jazzman1974
Have just finished the undercoat for the walls and ceiling. The phone pics make it look brighter than what it is. A big difference in light already. Will start on painting the ceiling tomorrow with Dulux Theatre Black. Still trying to decide on a wall colour, either a dark red, or a dark grey.
LogicprObe
Big, thick curtains for the windows, I presume?
AudioGeek
Nice gear and setup, looks like a fun build. Iam a big fan of Krix MX series. So easy to set up and great value as well. You have a lovely view out of those bay windows, hope you can preserve it with the build.
Quark
Looks like the makings of a great room - enjoy!
hopefullguy
before deciding the wall colour red or grey i would definately decide.. the curtains and floor. you have gone a sort of deep red wine colour for the seating so possibly incorporate that colour elsewhere. i did a dark red curtain along my walls with a 2meter "boxed" black front stage area (screen wall, side, ceiling, black carpet on floor,), all ceiling black and it seems to work well. also the floor which is a massive reflection area needs attention
jazzman1974
thanks for the comments guys, a work in progress that's for sure!! 8 hours ago, hopefullguy said: before deciding the wall colour red or grey i would definately decide.. the curtains and floor. you have gone a sort of deep red wine colour for the seating so possibly incorporate that colour elsewhere. i did a dark red curtain along my walls with a 2meter "boxed" black front stage area (screen wall, side, ceiling, black carpet on floor,), all ceiling black and it seems to work well. also the floor which is a massive reflection area needs attention The seats are a darkish grey. As for the floor, I am getting a charcoal carpet in once the stud wall is built, so that solves that issue. The curtains I already have...long story, but they need to be used. Just taking up room in the garage otherwise! There's a pic of them below. I think they will tie in with the dark red paint for the walls, as they are a gold/copper colour. They have a bit of a sheen to them but I hope they wont be too bad. Dont have the $$ for more curtains atm.... I'll be looking to have a black speaker grill type cloth on frames surrounding the screen on the stud wall. Have to find something suitable for the cloth tho. I'm def looking forward to setting up the MX's....have only heard them in the West Coast Hifi store. So want to hear them in my own room!! The view will be staying! Will be using curtains to close off the windows when the room is in use, and having them open when it isn't.

AudioGeek
You can add a second inner layer of curtain anytime - when funds allow. Few more coats and ceiling will be fine.

jazzman1974
Installed the Atmos speakers into the ceiling. Spent ages in the roof space checking for joists, beams etc Thought I got it all sorted with placement. Only having to move the rears back 300mm due to a cross beam. Was hard to get into the corner of the roof space for the rear right speaker, but thought I had worked out where the beams etc were running from the placement of the other 3 speakers.... ...was I wrong!! jazzman1974
spent 2 hrs in the roof hand sawing the joists out, then putting in a brace around the speaker hole with trimmers with the hip of the roof coming down, I couldnt get access to the joists topside taking tiles off, had to lay on my belly and hand cut...but I got there in the end. 4 Atmos ceiling speakers installed
jazzman1974
second last day at home, the carpet was installed....had hoped to have finished the stud wall before they were installed but weather was crap so couldnt have the dropsaw going outside... but the carpet makes a big difference to the room... back at work for 3 weeks, so all progress has stopped. will be straight back into it when I get home tho
