georgehifi Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) Me and Edgar Kramer discussing the virtues of Class D. Needless to say it was a very short discussion. With Pat O'Brien (War Audio) doing a Bakoon sales pitch on the phone in the background, if you notice he's selling hard in very photo Cheers George Edited December 10, 2012 by georgehifi
kramered Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 Tomorrow Sunday the 3rd of February the Audiophile Society of NSW (ASoN) will be holding its first meeting of 2013. Promises to be an interesting afternoon with Leo Simpson Editor/Publisher of Silicon Chip magazine presenting an amplifier module design claimed to have one of the lowest distortion figures of any amplifier. This should be of utmost interest to all audiophiles but especially DIY guys. There will be other amplifiers at hand for comparison as well as a choice of at least two preamplifiers, the Society's own KEF speakers and perhaps a surprise set too. Details below: "ULTRA-LD Mk.3 200W AMPLIFER MODULE Upgraded design has even lower distortion! By Nicholas Vinen The new and updated Ultra-LD Mk.3 is by far the best class-AB amplifier module design published anywhere. It has an astonishingly low total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) figure of 0.004% at 20kHz for 100W into 8Ω (20Hz-80kHz measurement bandwidth) and less than 0.0006% THD+N at 1kHz and below." kramered Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 The meeting on Sunday 3rd March should be a must-attend for any DIY'ers. The following intro from Society Vice-President Morris Swift: Following on from last month's exceptional DIY amplifier from Silicon Chip, which generated so much interest, this month we continue the DIY theme with some great loudspeakers. Sydney based company WES Components (Wagner Electronic Services) are best known for supplying an extensive range of parts to the electronic service industry, including some very hard-to-get items. They also have one of the best ranges of loudspeaker drivers, including such well known brands as Peerless, Vifa and Scan-Speak. This month they have specially assembled for us 3 models of their excellent kits, developed by Russell Storey of Stones Sound Studio in Queensland. These kits all come with pre-assembled cabinets and crossovers. The KIT360 standmount uses a 6.5" Peerless Nomex woofer and a Fountek ribbon tweeter. The HDS455 floorstander uses 2 x 6.5" Peerless Nomex woofers and a 1" Peerless dome tweeter, in an MTM configuration. The XLS 1002 Sub-woofer uses a 12" Peerless woofer, a 12" passive radiator, and a 200W amplifier.
