The $200 to 500 DAC and Amp options, new and used, in this thread are all solid options, and realistic gains for <$600 headphones are small between them.

Difference between a $200 set of cans and a once $1100 now $600 set though, is huge. But it's mostly musically huge.

So pick your priorities. For Gaming and YouTube, you want good positional, good impact in the bass. If you're spending a lot of time listening to music, whole other ballgame.

Ahhh RIP, went ahead with the purchas about an hour or two before there were a bunch of comments ahah.... Oh well, my brother might want to upgrade after I get these and he tests them out ?? I mean the AMP/DAC should last me basically forever and if I feel like I want to upgrade my bro probably wouldn't pass up the chance. What I bought in earlier post quoted below.

Alrighty, so it seems I'm going with the DX7 Pro, MMX 300, Dekoni Choice Pads, and I've decided to grab the Edifier S350DB 2.1 set lol.

The headphones themselves will always be the biggest factor in the sound you're hearing.

But I would advocate that if you have a good source and amplification to start with, if you decide you want more later on, new headphones are all you need, rather than having to worry about upgrading other equipment to suit.

That's my thoughts with going with the DX7 Pro in the end, ample power for any headphones I might go, and will only need to upgrade them to suit what I want at the time.

Priority is and will likely stay gaming and YouTube type stuff with occasional music thrown in, I doubt that will change in the foreseeable future too.

Let me know how the choice pads go mate.

I have a set of Brainwavz Micro Suede XL here too that fit, found them jsut a touch too big and squishy for me, but most love them. They are super soft.

Hope you enjoy it! Just remember that there is always a more impressive set of headphones that you could have gotten, just try to be happy with what you have. Also if you're mostly using them for gaming and youtube, I'm sure these will be great.

They are good for that. And a decent musical sound to boot (for the price of course). Which is head and shoulders above the gaming headset crap...

Well, it seems that the Topping DX7 Pro manufacturer are out of stock of a part/parts and won't be shipped till mid February at this point. Anyone Know of any other place that sells them that might have stock? Or of something of similar value, but just as good/better? (Was the best option for me out of those suggested so far IMO)

Or should I just wait for them to ship out?

Oh sorry, around the same price as the DX7 Pro, so preferably $700-$800 or around there.

Smsl sp200 amp $380 plus smsl su-8 V2 DAC $350. Better setup as the amp would be way better but same price range. You could skimp on the DAC a little even if you wanted it cheaper as you may not be interested in balanced which is fair enough.

Thanks for the suggestions! the sp200 seems good, stuck between the su-8 V2 vs Topping D50S now lol. I've seen that some people have said it's good to pair a balanced output with a balanced AMP input if the AMP is balanced... What difference would it make putting an unbalanced output from the DAC to the balanced AMP input?

Yeah, as above. Maybe go the Topping DAC.

I like all in one, nest on the desk :P

The Topping D50S? If so why do you say that? Because they are both black? lol

Might be for the best that they can't get you a DX7 Pro.

I was very excited when mine arrived early. Went to set it up and it was dead. Zero power on at all.

The solution when I contacted the seller? Take the board out myself and remove one of the resistors with a soldering iron. Because this has apparently happened to a few people.

I opted for a return.

Wow, yeah that's a bit rough mate... Maybe it's not a part that's out of stock but a fault in one of the parts then...

It certainly looks a bit suspicious. I'm a bit sad, I was looking forward to giving it a run. Now I'm in a similar boat to you, looking for something else in the same price range.

Actually, might have to go the SMSL SU-8 V2, didn't realise the Topping only had stereo out, whereas the SMSL has both RCA and XLR out. So I can use the XLR to AMP and RCA to my monitors that are on their way.

Also, silly question, but they both don't come with RCA or XLR cables right? If so, what interconnect XLR would you recommend and 1-2m RCA cables?

Any that look ok build quality for not much money....

They'll likely come with some stuff, may not be exactly all you need though.

No cables provided. Monagi are decent but $50 a single which is relatively cheap compared to others. If you give with cheap then swamp or store dj or DJ City have some as well.

Update, Dekoni earpads and XLR cables have come in lol ? The speakers also arrived, man I really should have got some speakers for my PC much earlier, the Edifier S350DB package is surprisingly good. Sub goes well in my PC room (Small bedroom size), sounds good too, really impressed by it for the money honestly.
