It's been sat in the cupboard for a year and this thread makes me want to pull this low rider back out for a play.... Just "Do It"!! What's happened to Vince? He made me a wonderful plinth for my LP12, from a lovely plank of figured Tassie Myrtle - see pic. Andy 1

Vince did have some great skills and I last saw him down the south coast Bomaderry i think it was a couple of years ago, he still likes a ciggie and an early beer and seemed very happy in life.

TOPSHELF Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Inspired by this thread I've dug my 881s out and dialed it in. With only one side played it's starting to sound very good. Different than my Nagoaka mp500, the Stanton has authority and drive with shimmering highs. A similar soundstage to the MP500 but the Nagoaka wins slightly on tonality and timbre. 3

TOPSHELF Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I've tried .8, .9, 1.0 and up to 1.1g over the years with 1.0g giving me the sound i like. This really is a low tracking cart, the azimuth needs to be perfect and a set of digital scales is a must to dial the vtf in.
TOPSHELF Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Whilst this cart tracks very well it is really low. It can handle a slightly warped record and still pushes out the sound but you can hear "something" when It does. The retrieval of information in the mid to upper frequencies is brilliant, punchy mids and tingling highs without any harshness.
TOPSHELF Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 @rossb if you'd like to have a play of this cart just holler out. I can imagine it sounding sublime on a great table......

I can imagine it sounding sublime on a great table...... I have the Kuzma Stabi with Audio Origami PU7 and it does sound sublime. A huge sound which has me wondering about either going up to the cs100 or something newer like the Soundsmith carts. Edited June 30, 2018 by PKay 1

I've set up once not an easy cartridge to setup bit at least the dynavector has the body angled upward to the back I think this stanton would be harder to align

But your comments above make me curious to try my Nagaoka MP500 on the Kuzma.
TOPSHELF Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 nm.Correct it really is a fine thing to get right. Rather than move the counter weight to and fro which is a tedious task to get right as the minute adjustments of the counter weight of the WT= a long wait for an accurate measurement i add small nuggets of blue tack to the head shell to dial it in.

Mines running around 1.2 at the moment and its sitting higher. I suspect its because its only done 20 or so hours.

TOPSHELF Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Hi Wimbo I'm not sure of the iteration but the stylus has the stereohedron diamond if that helps? Is that an 81S or the mk2 stylus? Mines running around 1.2 at the moment and its sitting higher. I suspect its because its only done 20 or so hours.

Yeah, I've got a mk2 as well. I also have pickering AME eliptical and its got a shorter stylus. Maybe thats the reason the @TOPSHELF and @Full Range stylii are sitting so low, MK1's. @MrRogers would know.
