C/o my darling bride of 20 years earlier, I got a nice anniversary pressi and today was a newby pilot in a V8 supercar for 6 laps at Sandown Racetrack.

Man, was it fun.

And then I got driven around the track for 4 more laps by a bloke who does 200 laps/day on these public days. Nothing special on the straights but his cornering was so fluid and at least twice as fast as I was

Highly recommended

Who else has done similar?

working for Mobil Oil had its perks

laps with HRT at both eastern creek and the island a few laps with Jim Richards in his porsche (a true highlight) a couple of laps of eastern creek with Brockie in a borrowed (read rental) holden commodore

Porsche drive days level 1,2 (at mt cotton) and 3. Level 3 involved a gt3rs and private tuition around willowbank with a noted driver ...

but the best day was the mercedes experience in NZ outside of Wellington on a sheep farm that just happened to have a private little track and ***** shooting and a 4wd park and helicopter ridesand copious amounts of NZ white and red, when we got off the bus we were handed a glass of champagne and a shotgun...we knew we were in for some fun but due to the amount of booze and food we were passengers only, truly the most memorable day in one of the most beautiful parts of the world ive been to. Dont work for Mobil anymore so they are just memories now

Similar - as a test driver many, many years ago. It is a humbling experience when you come in and then watch your telemetry...

Hehe, I prebought the video prior. Glad I did now, so I can remember the experience.

Pity one of the cameras wasn't on my copilot (instructor) rather than me when I missed a change to 4th from 5th braking from 200kph , selected 2nd by mistake and of course locked up the rears going in to the left hander....... embarrassment

And yes, all on video to my family's delight

Lucky the valves didn't touch the pus-tin.

After your opening post I was going to suggest any mbike ride day at the track would compete, but being a passenger with the greatest ever "Aussie" driver Jim Richards would have been good.

Never done so, but a mate of mine works for HRT, building the cars. He's been taken around Sandown and Phillip Island by their top dirvers (cant rember who they were)

When I was a young bloke (about 19) my old man insisted I do a drivers course. So he booked me into a two day course at Adelaide International Raceway . I had the pleasure of paying for it (not cheap, you will see why)

Arrived on the day to find three instructors. We were split into three groups, about 6 with each instructor.

Instructors were......Allan Moffatt,Peter Brock and Bob Morris !!!!! I got Moffatt.

We drove our own cars (bugger!!). Plenty of theory in the classroom as well as practical on the track. By the end of the weekend my times had come down by over one minute and thirty seconds !!!!

I was pretty chuffed with this effort, let me tell you. Then Moffatt drove my car !!!! Well, that took the wind out of my sails......ALOT. The ol' Moff was over thirty secs in front of my best time !!!!

Guess thats why he won all those races and I didn't !!!!! :)

Hehe, I remember as a kid going to Pukekohe track and watching young Jimmie Richards winning in the Utes races in the wet. Considering that was near 40 years ago, he still drives a pretty good drive. My next meeting with Jim R 'the misnamed aussie' was when he was lead driver of the Nissan racing team at Bay Park in Tauranga (where I used to live). My best mate from school days was the new Nissan Maxima marketing ngr, and he got us free dinner with the team the night before race day. I recall a night of multiple tequila shots - drinking 3 bars dry of tequila. Mrs N , a mere 55 kgs of her then, drank a young maori bloke of 80+kg under the table that night. She was much smarter than he

Nissan lap timers were used to time goldfish catching from the motel pool

Then, what to do with the goldfish.......

Yep, you may have guessed

Anyway, the next day was race day, and the Nissan pit crew and hangers on were looking a little seedy. Jim won I think, in spite of the rather unprofessional support crew. Perhaps thats why he left to base in the big West Island of InZid after that.....?

Ah, those were the days
