Hi,

There must be some fellow mad motorcyclists out there, How about we show our two wheeled rides.

I'll start with mine: Classic white 1986 VFR Honda 750.

Handysteel.:)

Out of all of the bikes that I owned between 1979 and 1989 this will always be my favourite and if my wallet alows one day I would by another over any other in a flash................

MyDuke1984.jpg

The quickest during that time however was this (image not mine) I had a Yoshimura stage three kit added............

I haven't owned a bike since the mid 70's.

This was my last - A XS1 650 Yamaha that was worked a little and saw off the 750 Hondas of the day.

The bike i wanted was a 900 Kwaka but my budget and my legs would not stretch enough:confused:

Hey Grumps' classic bike mate, based heavily on the "trumpy's" of the time I beleive?

V

Yes they copied the Bonneville, but it was a little quicker, more reliable and didn't leak black stuff.

My first bike was a 1958 Triumph Thunderbird - it was slow, not reliable and leaked black stuff:eek:

Dear All,

I have not had a bike since 1982 when i sold my Greeves Pathfinder 175cc.

I also had prior to that an

ex race Yam rd 350

Matchless 350cc single

2 off BSA Bantams 125cc.

Yesterday went to the Barry Sheene celebration race day at Eastern Creek and now have the I wants.

Trouble is is i will have to go through the whole bike training as i have not ridden a bike since 1995.

But i nice classic Brit would be nice.

or even a beautiful 250 or 350 Ducati Desmo single. Saw some beaut classic bikes yesterday.

I know sell the hifi and buy a bike.:)

I use own one of these in my teens paid $600 for it.As if I couldn't get in to enough trouble with in stock form , I rejetted it, replaced the air box set up for a&r filters and a set of flat race bars :).It had the wire spoke wheels.

My mates use to call it the Yamacati. :)

I don't have a pic of mine, but I currently own a Suzuki SV1000 that looks just like the stock pic I've lined, except with Staintune cans and dirt.

Best bike I've ever owned, and I wouldn't replace it, but I would add a BMW K1200 and/or Yamaha MT01.

sv1000_classic.jpg

Before that I has a BMW R1100S with all the options that some bastard stole. Lovely bike. Same colour as this one.

sbuff640.jpg

I nearly swore of pikes after buying a huge POS Yammie FZR1000. I know they're not all like that, but this one was obviously built late on a Friday before a holiday. It doesn't deserve a pic.

Throughout much of the late 80's and early 90's I owned two rides at the same time, a Suzuki GSXR1100J and a Honda VFR400, and no car. They were both exceptional for different reasons. The Gixer had over 350000k's on her when sold (motor went into a speedway car) but I don't know as I didn't have a speedo cable for the last year, so 339 + change was the last number on the odo and I put all but the first 20k on it. Mine was black.

If you've ever ridden a VFR400, you'll know what a cornering weapon they are. I got my elbow down on it many times, and I wasn't crashing at the time. I've never seen another with the same paint scheme, but the one shown is close.

And as I'm waffling on about bikes The greatest bike racer ever was the late Joey Dunlop (Mick Doohan is a very close second) and the greatest pice of motorcycle engineering was the Britten.

That sure is one beautiful looking bike. From the look of that snow in the background, you certainly wern't living in QLD at the time. The badge on the tank looks a bit like Voltaire's avatar.

I,ve had a few bikes over the years but would love to build one of these....they are in kit form and look like a nice ride.

(all pictures are taken from the net as the only ones I have are in a shoe box somewhere on film.)

Started on a Honda SL70

Then XR80

Then TS125

Then Montessa Cota 172

Then my first bike I used on the road an XT250, put nearly 100K on it.

yamaha_xt_250_1990_2.jpg

Then its bigger brother for a while XT500

122_163301.jpg

Then my first "real" road bike, CX500EC

And then a bit like going from a walkman to Terry j's system, a 900S2 Ducati.

Then baby sat my mates Katana 1100 for a couple of year whilst he was in Europe. Very enjoyable.

yoshi-1100.jpg

Had a host of Yamaha RDLC's at the same time, one road registered and a couple for club racing and another 4 or 5 in pieces for parts. I'll have to dig out a picture of my road beasty. Definitely my favorite of all the bikes I've owned. Café raced with clip ons, bullet fairing, chopped seat, etc. BMW gun metal grey and silver paint. Ported motor with stinger race pipes. Put on a massive diet and weighed in at under 110kg. It was very fast around Reefton spur.

Just married and commuting through the city so I had to get a nice easy commuter. Picked up a Honda CX500 Turbo for around 1100 that needed work, bargain!.

Honda%20CX500%20TURBO%20%204.jpg

My son arrived not long after and the bikes slowly faded in to the past.

Second last was a Ducati 600SS (my wifes actually, she started on a Honda XL250S, then a Honda CBX750 to the Ducati below)

Ducati%20600SS%2094%20%201.jpg

Followed by my last real bike an original first model Pantah 500 with the ugly fairing.

If I had to pick a bike out of the above bunch it would be a toss-up between the Pantah and Cafe raced RDLC.

Cheers, Earle.

i have a few but just acquired are the following two both original except for the paint on the katana and both will be lovingly returned to original condition

so hers my GSX1100 it has the rare original wire wheels that circa 100 came to the country with

pics005.jpg

sans screen which cracked during transport ... i just rebuilt carbies

and motor has approx 2000k's since full rebuild by Trevor Love

want to get it running to see what mechanically might be an issue before

frame up rebuild in original colours

pics001.jpg

My other recent purchase is a 87 gsxr1100 which whilst it requires a tidy up, is complete original in every way even the exhaust has full fairing kit and with 85,000 original k's produced 113hp on the dyno ran 11.7 seconds down the quater the day i picked it up :))

For some reason I didn't pick you as a bike nut. All that tech talk of yours made me think of you as a nerdy type with your head in a book.:). Some great bikes there. The BMW (pic saved) would be my favourite

My first bike was a Honda 500/4, early 70's.

This is just a pic of the net....Got pics in photo album, but too lazy to upload via scanner.Mine had 4:1 pipes, fairing and carby mods

Not in the same speed factor as some of yours, but fun none the less. Rode it into oblivion up and down the east coast for years. Once did the trip from Sydney to Brisbane along the New England in about 6 hrs....great ride. No speeding tickets and saw no roos.

As I got older though, comfort seems to be a bigger factor.

cheers

Earle with the cone on your head, I should have forseen you'd have had a plastic maggot. They were a very good bike and didn't deserve all the crap they got. Never rode a turbo one though; was it a good implementation of a bit two-strokey?

Sweet bikes. The Gixer is the same as mine, except mine had an 88 compliance plate. By the time I sold her she could have won a rat-bike contest she was so ugly after a decade with me and never been in a garage and ridden in all weathers as my only transport. She was well maintained mechanically though.

I'm not surprised it still goes that well. They were very lowly tuned and tough as old boots. As I knew the new owner was going to used the motor only, I spent the last arvo of ownership doing burnouts and monos and stoppies and generally behaving like a git but the performance was all still there. I recall reading sometime during my ownership reading an interview with the guy who did all the quarter mile testing for one of the US mags. he said it was the easiest bike to get off the mark that he'd ridden to that time, and he could be completely consistent with times on it.

I'd love to get an old one myself to restore.

During my rooting around in old boxes for my move, I'll see if the old factory workshop manual is still here and if so I'll post it up if you'd like.

For some reason I didn't pick you as a bike nut. All that tech talk of yours made me think of you as a nerdy type with your head in a book.:).
Nerd? Moi? Well, yes, but during my 20's, I was a bad boy and had friends who were patch members of a motorcycle club. I didn't own a car for much of that period either, and only in recent years have used one as daily transport. Hell, back then I never even took my leathers or boots (Medal Boots in Melb) off at work. A near death experience that had nothing to do with bikes, brought me to my senses and I was transformed into mild mannered little ole me.

I watched the movie Two Hands yesterday and it was like going back in time.

Jeuring, sorry mate, but i had a choice of a second hand Honda 500/ 4 or The Yamaha 650 back in the early 70's and chose the Yammie. The 500 was smooth and nice to ride; then i hopped on the slightly worked Yammie and it was like going from riding a Kids rocking horse to a real bucking Bronco:confused: I chose the Yammie and i'm glad i did. A mates old father bought a Honda 500 not long after; that could have been embarrassing:)

Years after owning my last bike (the Yam 650) I had a loan of a Honda500 to go to work on and i really did enjoy it's 'ride'; I was older and enjoyed it's manner.

Can you give me some info on this bike please V; it is a Ducati isn't it?

I couldn't find any Duc's in my price range when i first got into bikes but always loved them. A mate had an old little single cylinder Duc and it was so nice to ride.

Ducati's are still the best sounding bike on the road today and one will be mine when the Lotto numbers come up:confused:

my choice if i had the money would be a zsled a z900 but gee they go for over 20k now good ones....

A9X certainly if you have the manual i have the beer tokens :))

Cheers mate no rush, its registered and runs fine so for the next few months it will be a thrash around rather than the spondon... the zx12 is a drag only cant be reregistered as it was a crate bike

A Spondon too. You are officially a bastard I hate.

If I find it, it's yours, but I will come around there and want a ride after the resto.
