You did the right thing Chris. Using the short wall gives you better length and should give you more dimension to the sound. Chairs look great. What a nice Chrissy present for the family.:thumb:

The JBL's have has a system built up around them and I'm very pleased with the sound.

Wish everyone a merry Christmas and a Happy new year.:)

P.S. remember to upgrade your AC supply if you havnt already and to run all the cables you can for future upgrades.

Thanks Glen. Going to get some new power points installed at the back wall. So will look into a new circuit for that. Got the speaker/hdmi/optical cabling sorted just have to run it. I found a 6m 100dia pvc tube which I will lay on the bottom chord of the roof trusses. Then I can run all the long cables through that. Easy peasy. Much easier than dodging hip and valley trusses ?

Best of luck with that.  It can be bloody hard work getting a new dog - I hope you've got some time off to get acclimated with the new family member.

Agreed !! We have two weeks leave over Christmas and the kids have more than a month. So a goodish time for the dog to get into a routine and for our current dog to absorb the change !! Poor little guy won’t know what’s going on. Lol

Thanks. It’s coming along alright but will be all on hold until after Christmas now. Then the sparky and a setter will come. Then I can paint and get carpet organised. We are going to carpet over the tiles with a decent underlay.

Excellent!

Get the new dog yet? Better get him used to loud sounds.

My little dog used to freak at the dynamics of my favorite Stavinski recording.

Looks like a border collie to me.

Here's ours when he was a bit older than Helix.

They are extremely busy dogs and chew everything. But very smart. I feel sorry for your CKCS because he's going to be run ragged.

Enjoy the HT build and Helix!

AFAIK, Border Collies do not come in brown or tan??? However there is a breed a friend has, called (take a big breath) Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever which is a slightly smaller look a like to the Border Collie in tan white colour.

Am I right @Besty22 ? We also have a Bleinheim Cav and a Brindle Whippet.

Ours likes to shiver if below 18 degrees and pant when over 25, they have a very narrow comfort range, although the shivering is more a "let me in" demand rather than real shivering.

I'm still getting pressure for a dog from little daughter.

I dont mind as have had dogs before and enjoy. just dont know who is going to look after it with our busy lives, i can travel at times. wife is very busy. she doesnt want to know about it !

ideally we want a dog thats like a cat... we also not too sure about some hyper dog and some tend to be and needing a lot of attention etc that we might not be able to give it

for some reason jack russel came on our radar...small fit through the cat flap :D  but been warned off by a few here ! that they are hyper to next level !

maltese and whippet above has been mentioned. am still entertaining the idea... little daughter wrote to santa saying she wants a dog...we can done that one for now as there was a get out option of a robot she can program ! and santa can always tell her in a note back he doesnt do dog deliveries !

any suggestions ?

we only have  a paved courtyard. town house style house. at best we'd walk it twice day half hour each time. at worst once a day.

would have to be happy at times all alone at home with only old retired grandma cat as company.

ps we have a neighbour and dog grown up and it poor thing howls most days with owners away work etc. that is last thing i want ! or one of those snappy things that bark all day at the smallest thing. see definitely its got to be  dog thats like a cat...and a dog for cat owners :D

ps last dog i had was a lhasa apso but i noticed he liked running through the fields.... :D not sure how go in suburbia !

Whippet or most sight hounds for that matter, except the tiny Italian Greyhounds. Ask any vet. Often recommended for people living in apartments. They are a very sound breed as in not having any in bred issues. Don't bark, don't need baths (I literally can't remember the last time we bathed Roxy, she just never smells), short coat that doesn't need ANY attention, walk 2-3 times a week is plenty, perhaps more because of small yard. They are the most docile dogs you can imagine, but most are not really into lying on the couch with you, they will find a quiet spot and lie there most of the day sleeping.

You've met Roxy, she will excitedly come and greet you, get a pat for a minute or 2 and then wander off to 1 of her spots around the house... In our case Roxy was much more affectionate before kids came along and she did really get her nose out of joint for quite some time. My inlaws got 1 6 months after we got Roxy, and she is the same, although lives on a farm so does enjoy a bit of a run a couple of times a day.

Best thing about Whippets is the easy care and watching them run when they get the chance, they have acceleration and speed you love to watch. They are not cuddly and cute, but more regal and move with a dignified grace.

That’s a cute dog as well. Yes ours is a chocolate Border Collie. The poor little Cav has no idea what’s going on with this new hyper dog. Haha.

Well that is one thing that we can agree upon regarding the Whippet. A perfect breed and if everyone had one there would be no neighbor disputes.

Our Cavalier is a great house dog, except for the hair. He spends most days, well used to, sleeping and snoring.

He has a great attitude with the kids but definitely prefers my wife’s company. Probably because she treats him like a baby.

In other news. I have had to return all the furniture to the unfinished room during Christmas. Gyprock is getting set late Jan, around the 27th. Then I will paint.

Running cables this weekend.

Just found out I will be inheriting some Martin Loagan ESLs so I may run two sets of main speaker cables each side.

Does anyone here run electrostatics as home theatre mains?

apart from whippets how are these cavaliers like, any other thoughts on whether would fit our odd requirements ? are there different sorts of cavs ? I suspect will need more baths and grooming than the whippets ?

Hi Al. Yeah they need a bath at least once a month in my experience , sooner if walking through wet grass etc as the long hair gets dirty quickly. Ours is a lovely boy though. Very affectionate and cuddly. He literally snuggles in for a pick up cuddle. Lol. It’s pathetic and cute. Haha. He is great with the kids as well.

One negative is the snoring. Omg. It’s like a grown man at times. ?

That's a common misconception about border collies. They actually come in ALL colours including (but rarely) solid black, solid white and solid brown.

My boy had a black and white mum and a tricolour dad but he is mostly tan with a little bit of black and white.

Besty22's brown/white Helix is fairly common.

They all seem to have the same personality though and all suffer from ADHD as youngsters.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a breed that should be banned as it is one that is prone to some nasty  and cruel genetic problems including horrible seizures commonly known as falling down seizures .A well known problem. As if the snoring is not bad enough. There is plenty of Youtube footage of this problem. Here is one of the milder ones-there are far more severe ones than this.
