You must be stoked!

For me, it's great to see something coming together so quickly  Sometimes, I think I have given myself too bigger task. Takes me all day to do the smallest of things

Looking forward to more pics and progress updates :)

Trust me Ruth, If i knew half the stuff you do....I would be trying to do it myself!. For me everything was going slow slow slow.....and all of a sudden everything is rush, rush and rush. I wish I could take my time on things.

I better be invited to your place for a GTG when your theater is ready ;)

Hey Peter,

Thanks for popping in buddy. hope your build is going well!.

I decided not to go to extreme with the coollng and heating as it was doing my head in....especially since were not going ducted heating *going hydronic heating instead* and I didnt want to bring evaporative cooling into the HT room due to moisture problems....its going everywhere else except the HT room.

I just got a Mitsubishi signature split system for the room which also supplies fresh air.

I got the plans back from Nyal regarding the riser bass trap. He specified 16 x 35mm x 100mm HVAC vents to go around the riser along with the locations and all that but.....I just cant seem to find that size vent anywhere?. I wonder if I can go another size more common size lol..........anyone got any ideas regarding this?

Kev try Rayson Ind out Yoracs way in Hallam, they make anything in sheetmetal for HVAC applications, we use them at work all the time matey.

Good stuff mate

Not wanting to open an old debate but....any reason you chose green glue over quiet glue?

Actually no, tell you the truth I actually completly forgot about Quiet Glue..........kept reading on AVS as everyone uses Green Glue.....so I just ordered that :)

Fair enough!

So guys, last time i updated this thread was back in 2015....and its 2023 lol. Time for updates. The room is finished!....but will post all the build process still incase anyone is interested! 🙂

Drywall is all up!. I use Isomax resilient clips with channels with 19mm Plywood as first layer which doubles as a mounting substrate. Green glue was then applied onto 1st layer and 2nd layer was 16mm Fyrchek plasterboard. The wall is pretty damn stiff.

Baffle wall being built by our carpenter.

Riser was also finished and filled with Bradford insulation as specced by Nyal Mellor from Acoustic Frontiers in the US.

Nyal ended up doing all my speaker positions/Baffle wall/Bass trap riser construction plans and also did all the acoustic treatment plans as well.

Rear surrounds are custom made by Paul Spencer from Red Spade audio who designed these speakers to specifically match and keep up with my 12C Catalyst speakers in the dynamics and still maintain clarity. They are simply brilliant speakers and he is such a knowledgable guy!.

Projector also went up - JVC X55 with a temporary sheet screen setup  LOL!

I upgraded all 4 of my Submersives from the standard 1kw sub amps to the new 6kw Amp+ slave combo.

Total of 12,000watts of power for all 4 subs. It was an absolute night and day difference compared to the old amps where I would run into some light clipping on some scenes......not with these bad boys lol.

They really changed the dynamics of the subs and how they perform................a bloody worthwhile upgrade!.

So according to Nyal, he spec'd me an acoustic plan.

So i reached out to Gordon Rosario from Acoustic Vision and he recommended me a mix of panels from Quest AI, RPG BAD panels and Vicoustic DC2 diffusers.

I ended up getting  -

5 Quest AI Q-Fractor Hybrid panels - Absorption/Diffusion and Reflection.
2 RPG BAD Panels - Absorption/Diffusion
Vicoustic DC2 Diffusors.

I was absolutely GOBSMACKED! at the difference it made to the sound. Clarity was increased by a ton!, channel separation was insane!.....I could hear sounds coming from places where there are no speakers!!! LOL.

One of the biggest differences i noticed was how big the soundstage became....it felt like the walls were removed and room just sounded waaaaaay bigger. Ive always heard great things about Quest panels from AVS Forum as they are very popular there and I remember Dennis Erskine would mainly use thieir panels for all thier builds. Overall i  was absolutely wrapped with how it sounded.....and it was definetly one of the biggest upgrades I have made to date.

Great thread!

just wondering what the layout of the treatment is?

  • Author

Also, forgot to mention - but didnt take photos.....

Back in 2018  I also bought Crowson Tactile Transducers which all sit underneath the front row of seats 🙂

Rear seats didnt need them as the rear subs in the back provide enough shaking lol.
