Skid_MacMarx Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) Nothing to see here.. When I need to replace my iPhone 5 I'm thinking of moving to the Xperia I was hoping they would start making their phones a lot more robust. (in particular, their buttons being prone to moisture etc) I gather "C" means "Cheap" especially for the "Chinese" market And, now "S" means "status" or "superior" Apple launches low-cost smartphone APPLE today launched two new iPhones that will be on sale in Australia within two weeks, along with an operating system upgrade that will radically change the user experience on most existing iPhones and iPads. In an event that offered few surprises but a lots of detail, Apple announced a new flagship iPhone 5S which will supercede the current iPhone 5, along with a cheaper plastic iPhone 5C. "The business has become so large that this year we are going to replace the iPhone 5 and we are going to replace it with two new designs," Apple chief Tim Cook announced at the company's Silicon Valley headquarters. Apple will begin taking orders on Friday, and on September 20 the two devices will go on sale in Australia, the United States, Britain, China, France, Germany, Japan and Singapore. The iPhone 5C is part of Apple's bid to counter the flood of low-cost smartphones from rivals, most of which use the Google Android operating system. http://www.theaustra...x-1226716530316 Edited September 11, 2013 by Skid_MacMarx
myrantz Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 And, now "S" means "status" or "superior" S means "Sucker"... Every time Apple releases something, a lot of phones are smuggled into China to turn a big profit. Interesting to see how that part of the world will react now that it's released immediately in China.

So what is Apple's answer to the flood of low-cost smartphones ? Launching a "cheap" phone that's costlier than the Galaxy S4 and HTC One ! They have truly run out of ideas after Steve Jobs passed away.
Skid_MacMarx Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Yes, a lot of us don't consider our handsets to be "fashion items" and expect them to stand up to the "wear and tear" of everyday use. I prefer ios6 over Android but the price is OTT.

gone_bush Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Why all the hype about iPhones when they have far less than 50% on the market. For example, what a stupid move by Foxtel to have their programs available only on iDevices and not Android powered devices. Very neatly restricts your market to less than 50% of the population.
kulfi Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Why all the hype about iPhones when they have far less than 50% on the market. Because the i-crowd is going to pay for apps, make regular in-app purchases and has loose purse strings to buy a variety of "fashionable" or "luxury" goods. Apple has been using this strategy for years and the muppets have obliged every time. I'm sure the queue for the gold and pink iPhones outside Sydney's Apple store will be just as long this time.
