wolster Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 What a match. Sam was fantastic early. Served for the match in the second set. Boofhead Williams fought back and levelled at one set all. Boofhead seemed to have the momentum in the second set but Sam hung in there and took it out 8-6. Great night for a great Aussie. :party:party Cheers wolster
cheekyboy Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Yes Wal a great win and no doubt can go all the way now. What she has in front of her to win the the tournament isn't as good as what she's beaten to get to the semi. Jankovic now for a spot in the final..........go Sam!!
MultiplexMan Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Good news! It is rewarding to see a sportsman get over that mental hurdle to winning. Once there is self belief...
OakenShield1 Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Agreed, heard about this just this morning, you go girl! Even if she doesn't take it out now, she and us now know that she can take it to the best of them. The only thing that has me worried now is she'll be a bit exhausted... GO SAM!
cheekyboy Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Grumpy said: WHAT!! I missed it. That's fantastic She's second match on after 10pm our time tonight so probably will be after midnight when she starts, depending when the first semi finishes. You'll have to have Fox to watch though as I don't think Nine will be smart enough to show it live tonight!!
jimdgoulding Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 You guys have got to be excited down there. Stosur got in trouble with Henin and Serena (who wouldn't) but came thru impressively. She can hit and she's got strategy. Sciavoni has got to be determined, too, and has a wicked game. Dementiava in the player least likely to succeed today, IMO, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. Sciavoni will be very aggressive. She shouldn't want Dementiava to get good position on the ball, her ground stokes are killer. It's 7:00am where I'm at and the first match is getting underway. Jankovich will make it interesting for Sam later, she's a hellofa an all court player. It's a good day for tennis fans, especially you guys. Best wishes.
jimdgoulding Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Demetiava is the most frustrating player to watch in the world. She is clearly the better player on the court (end of first set), but just cannot control the depth of her shots. Whoa, holy ****. She just retired!
davidsss Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Wow an Aussie in the women's singles semi finals at a Grand Slam. Must be a while since we've seen that. Beating Williams, especially after having a match point against her, was a hell of an effort. I hope she goess all the way but it is fabulous to see her get to this level. DS
jimdgoulding Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 (edited) What a terrible finish. Demetiava will never live that down. Sciavoni didn't win that- she reminds me of a pesty little gnat, one who is noisy as hell- Demetiava just flat out tanked it. Edited June 3, 2010 by jimdgoulding

Before she sustained the injury, I thought she was finding her range after a slow start. Go Sam!! Cheers wolster
jimdgoulding Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 It shoulda never gone to a tie break, Wol. I mean, what the heck happened? I'm just so disappointed, I suppose.
wolster Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Perfect start by Sam, Jim. 6-1 and on her way :-)
wolster Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 You bloody beauty!! Sam in the French Open Final. A small hiccup at the beginning of the second set but overall, confident and clinical. Go Sam!!:party
cheekyboy Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Just a fabulous win Sam, bloody ripper!! I've known this girl now since she was around 10 -11 years of age and it is great to see all the hard work over the years pay off for her and pay off big time...............a Grand Slam Singles final now. I honestly believe she'll go all the way now and will have too much game for Schiavone in the final. Well done and go Sam!
NellyJamba Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Wooooooooh! Get in Sam! One match away from greatness!
jimdgoulding Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I'll be very surprised if she doesn't win the title. Jankovich is known for her defensive prowess and as a clever girl and was handily beaten. Think you guys oughta have some bubbly handy. She looks gggreat out there!
Rhett Morson Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 who is the vettel of womens tennis? stosur = woody
brumby Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I'm not sure of this, but I don't think there's been an Aussie female singles grand slam winner since Evonne Goolagong (Cawley) took out Chris Evert at Wimbledon in 1980. That's 30 years ago. Go Sam!

She thinks she's just the greatest, rarely gives her opponents any credit and her comment over her loss to Sam that "it was my match but I just lost it" is typical and gave no credit to Sam for being the better player on the day. She thinks her turds don't stink, will abuse officials and lines judges to the point of threatening physical harm to them and on top of all that is just a first class A grade *****..............does that sound like Vettel??

Glad you said that. She scares me and she's bigger than me
