betty boop Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 guys, our old toppy 7000hdpvrt which remarkably is still going on. and has been at my parents last couple of years. however jsut recently the remote for the toppy doesnt seem to do anything. ie point it at the toppy try to turn it on and nothing. even if switch the toppy on with its main switch, and the remote wont change channels and none of the other buttons on the remote work. I have been fortunate that bought my parents a harmony remote so can use it to do most basic functions on the toppy. so useable. just I want to program in the harmony some of the other instructions like subtitle or aspect ratio/video resolution and the like. but with the toppy remote not working no hope being able to teach the harmony anymore. has anyone else had this issue. do the remotes on these things just pack up ? thats it ? seems a bit crazy. I've never had a remote fail on anything have ever bought in the god knows how many years. so seems a bit bizare. or and what I am hoping is there some trick to this ? we've tried the obvious. other batteries, new ones etc. all seems a bit bizarre.
pgdownload Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Perhaps you've toggled the remote mode? Press and hold POWER and 4 at the same time to return it to 7000 mode. Regards Peter Gillespie

Regards Peter Gillespie now was hopping some freaky thing like that. am over their place tomorrow, will give it a shot do you do this when hte unit is off or on pete ? also how would remote mode have changed ? is there some button we shouldnt press ? to avoid this situation ? anyways fingers crossed it is just this "remote mode".
50mxe20 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I have never had all the remote buttons go but I have noticed incredible lack of responsiveness sometimes that a factory reset fixes. It is more likely what Pete suggests but if all else fails give that a shot.

I get that on a daily basis. Press a button, wait 30 seconds, press another wait another 30 seconds. Can't shut down because it's recording but as soon as the recording ends, shut down and start it up again and the problem goes away. No need to go the factory reset. As for the Logitech, plug it into the computer and download the settings for the 7000, it works with my Harmony, (not that I use the Harmony to change settings). Edited January 18, 2011 by miata

Basil1503559642 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Similar problem Al,my Brothers 7000 remote carked it a Month or so ago,he just purchased Boris's 7000 in the other thread(said to say thanks Boris, everything works fine). He gave his remote a hard time thou,i saw him throw it at the 7000 once when it failed to Rec. one of his Fav. shows,so probaly lucky it lasted this long.
betty boop Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 o, back from my parents, the power and 4 button trick, didnt really work. but what I did find is that if persistent with continually hitting buttons on the remote, eventually it does pick a signal up from it. given the harmony works fine wiht the toppy, this tends to indicate the toppy remote to be the dodgy factor. a bit dissapointing. but I guess I can then still try set up the harmony with the dodgy toppy remote. will just have to keep jabbing the remotes buttons when trying to do the teach function. and hopefully the odd command gets through. not sure what else to do. overall, it leaves me with little confidence i the toppy really. its always been a bit on the edge of holding itself together and with a dodgy remote some indication to the level of engineering behind the thing. we have never abused the remote either. ours is in pristine nick. my parents are very carefull with things as well. so hard to explain ! if tivo come out wiht a new model, I can see ouselves very quickly passing one of our old tivo's straight onto my parents. lets just hope the toppy holds its self together until that point !
pgdownload Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Too bad the power button trick didn't work. Can you email Logitech and ask them to add the few extra buttons to your Harmony Account? Almost certain Tivo won't have a new model. Just a bigger harddrive. You can apparently get one for $400 at Myer until Aust day. You should also be able to order a new remote from Topfield for about $40 Regards Peter Gillespie

I'll struggle on wiht trying to program the harmony using the half dead unresponsive toppy remote. otherwise good idea $40 another cheap option for a new toppy remote !
50mxe20 Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Buy the 2nd hand 7000 that is for sale on the forum and get the remote.
