Anyone Have This Strange Ps3 Game Phenomena Happen To Them?

Featured Replies

A couple of months ago (upon release) my sister sent me Metal Gear IV for my PS3. It came from Ireland, which is the same as the UK, which means the game should/did work on my PS3. Now I might add my PS3 is an original Japanese 20GB unit.

The game only worked once. Every other time I tried it since, it would get to the screen regarding saving, and despite (from memory) telling you to push "circle" to continue. Pushing any button failed to continue the game/load. So I sent it back to her and am awaiting the replacement copy.

Fast forward to last week. I download the demo version of Blood Siren and the same thing - game refuses to progress past the start screen. All buttons confirmed to work on my controller. Gave up and deleted. Yesterday I download the demo of the Last Guy, and the exact same thing. All my other games (download and retail copies) all work fine.

Anybody come across this?

That's just too weird MarkH.

Ok 1 game becoming faulty is not too bad but suddenly all these.I assume the PS3 works fine doing everything else.

I'm no expert here but have you updated the firmware recently?

Do you have this problem with other disks?

It's a long way return a disk. That's just over the water from me

Good luck MarkH ,hope someone can help

Nope...

Cross and circle buttons are switched on a Jap console, but I've never heard of this problem before..

how much disc space do you have left?

how much disc space do you have left?

About 90GB - I installed a 160GB months ago.

yes allm y retail games play fine:-

Buzz

Singstar

Motorstorm

Burnout Paradise

FW up to date.

Do you have any parental controls set? If so remove them. I had a problem like htis and this worked.

Wouldn't it be embarrassing if you were just pressing the wrong button

MGS works better on Jap consoles because the buttons are reversed. It's so annoying on local consoles as you are so used to the standard button layout for games (ie X being main action button etc) but MGS has to go and swap the standard usage for X and O around

Probably too obvious, but is your controller number 1? Most games I have seen will only recognise input from controller 1 so you need to press and hold the PS button until a menu shows up and then change the controller number shown to 1.

Thats actually a pretty good thing to check - as I know there are games that will not work (ie not let you do anything) if the controller is not set to player 1

Games like GTA IV, Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank

You mention you have Buzz - do you keep the buzzers plugged in at all times? If so, that will register as controller one and other controllers get assigned accordingly.

Good idea. I know my controller is registerin as 2. When I hold the PS button I only get 2 option, turn system off or turn controller off. How do I change controller numbers?

Will try when I get home.

I had the same issue - it was confusing the hell out of me... turned out it was the blu-ray remote that had registered itself as controller 1 if I recall correctly. Had to hold down the PS button on that and turn it off, then turn off the DS3, then turn the DS3 back on so it would go back into pole position.

Cheers,

Doc.

you have to be in a game first before it give you that option from the PS menu.

um.. yeah you could do it that complicated way or

Just go to the settings, select Accessory Settings, highlight the controller option and then reassign controller to Slot 1.

Simple, takes about 3 seconds, and you dont have to turn anything off

Alternatively while in the game hold the PS button and select Controller Options and reassign controller to Slot 1

Hmmm... this does sound easier - didn't even know the option was there! Only have 2 PSN games that I have noticed it effect and only occurs where I have turned the PS3 on via the BT remote first then picked up a controller. This is not often. Thanks for the tip anyways!

Cheers.

Doc.

Well strike me down it worked (at least with demos I had issues with before) !

Thanks again guys!
