Off-topic Post Counts

Featured Replies

I'm playing two games here, you may guess what the second one is.

Does this post in the anti-spam thread have something to do with the other game you are playing?

Vigilantes in action!

What I'd prefer to consider though is opening the "Warn" system up to Senior Members. To cool this level of power, any abuse of it would see the Senior Member permanently suspended.

Anyway, I'll think about it and put a recommendation in if I can make it work.

Do you consider OT regular posters* unworthy (or too immature) of such responsibility and power?

* removing the OT from post counts would drop many below the Senior member status....

Once again I will ask the same question.....

You have requested people's views on the suggestion, can you please tell us what the real motivation and/or reasoning behind the proposed changes are?

You might actually get some more appropriate and relevant responses to the actual issue as a result! ;)

So, that's a "no", as in.....no change required then.

it would make a nice change from the impression of a blocked dunny when he posts on here

Fair enough :D

I wonder if "scorchie" would lose 100% of posts if the "big flick" happened???

Edit: "TiggyF", have you voted yet??? B)

From the behaviour displayed in this thread by some of them. I'd say yes.

I'd imagine that the instant the button to submit a post is clicked, a post "exists" in the digital domain - which'd mean it probably could be reported even if it's only seen by individuals who have been granted 'superior vetting status' by the forum administrators.

Seems kinda tough... knowing something that won't ever count, can still lead to dry roasted nuts. :o:D

It's reminiscent of one of those horror flick scenarios where the "Ultimate Evil" wins simply because no-one ever knows that there were those who took a stand; even though they know their stand is doomed - but, they do it anyway because as Kevin Rudd said before the 2020 summit "even if nothing comes of our effort, it's better to have tried than not bothered at all"... <_<;)

Yep - you get it Steve :D

And on top of all that: would a non counting poster that over stepped the mark be pinged for a careless high tackle or something more sinister.

I mean the punishment should fit the crime so if it's a non counting post it's value is apparently lower, so it would be like stealing $2 - whereas a counting post would be of significantly higher value and thus attract a more significant punishment.

Gosh it's starts to get complicated because some miscreant might say in his defense that they thought their post would be a low value non counter, but here they are not knowing that it was a counter, getting belted over the head by the moderators - We need guidelines here!!!

Firstly, I would appreciate if (ironically) the off topic posts can not enter this thread. All it does is blow what should be a solid 8 page thread of good reading into a much larger wall of text.

ah.....one of raymonds knights................no surprises there..................no really..............you couldn't expect any less

not exactly the way I would have thought/looked at it but non the less an excellent way to express your point of view and it will be taken on board for further analysis. :ninja:

as i have pointed out numerous times i have copyrighted my point..............although mainly in o/t so you get no points for it

I've never attached any importance to post counts (other than say those under about 20) which might indicate the poster is potentially a trouble maker. If someone posts 100% in OT then its not really an issue? If they post 50% in OT and 50% in helping people then is saying they have 1408 posts rather than 2808 posts going to make any difference to anyone? People that post 99% in OT and 1% in other areas, well either they're helpful (or humorous) or they can find themselves banned pretty quickly for making abusive posts (don't really see it being a big issue)

Just in case. You never know people will steal anything these days. :winky:

Maybe if we already didn't count off-topic posts, then people might consider the post count more relevant?

Maybe if we already didn't count off-topic posts, then people might consider the post count more relevant?

And as I've pointed out before, recipes, camera tips, car and travel tips all go in the Off-Topic section, yet these posts are less worthy then "Where can I buy monster cable from ?" ?????

And from a realistic point-of-view, let's be brutally honest here, it costs $$'s to run this forum, money (partially) recouped from advertising, brought on the popularity of the forum.

If (say) 50% of all posts do not directly relate to DTV, then are they not "off-topic", yet they still represent 50% of the popularity of the forum.

Austen.

Mellow out, dude!

Andrew,

While you and mello have your issues, and that's fine with me, I find your new sig provocative and offensive, intended no doubt to incite anger in mello, and as a side-effect, also those whom would call him a friend.

Mello has copped a ban, and be that as it may, I feel it in particularly poor taste for you to gloat over it.

I'm Austen, and that's my $0.02.

Completely agree Austen.

Whilst I try not to get involved in this sort of bickering, you have definitely crossed the line Andrew.

C'mon guys, without wanting to start another major argument here, why is it ok for mello to add whatever he likes to his sig, such as the dig at me where he accused me of "sticking up 711's" and no-one bats an eyelid but as soon as Andrew does something you guys don't like it's offensive?

Be fair for crying out loud. :(

Oh and mello crossed the line with his language but none of you seemed to care about that either.

Just my 2c worth.

Sorry Kazz, but I can put my hand on my heart and say I don't know what you are talking about ........

I (literally) only looked at the bun-fight thread(s) once or twice, saw a heap of posts that had been deleted, posted once that I had no idea what was going on and left.

I just (this morning) saw AndrewW's new sig and felt compelled to comment on it, so (in this instance :P ) definitely "Not guilty your Honour" of taking sides !!!!

Interesting that neither of you jumped on mello when he made his famous "f**k off you idiot" post in my thread in OT

Nor have you ever made a comment about mello's continued and sustained attempts to provoke me into a response in OT (even though I haven't even visited that particular forum for many, many months).

Hmmmmmmmm

At 10:49 I posted that I had not in any way been following the fight, and had only just seen AndrewW's new sig.....

AndrewW, I DIDN'T FOLLOW THE FIGHT, DIDN'T SEE WHO POSTED WHAT, AND DID NEITHER ATTACK YOU, NOR DEFEND MELLO DURING THAT TIME, BECAUSE I WASN'T WATCHING.

I saw your sig this morning, I commented on it.

Well I didn't see that thread, so I can't comment on whether you were or not :P

....seriously though, when have I ever commented about yours, or anyone elses behaviour in the past? I try to stay out of all that BS and maintain some neutrality.

In this case, I do believe that your signature is inciteful, and done at a time when the target has no avenue for response.... a bit cowardly really.

Took a bit of work to find it, but here was my contribution to the "debate" ..........

And a Bex ® :) !!!

I wish I knew what all this was about, as far as I can tell, The Mighty Winged One has scorched the offending posts, now all we're seeing it "he said" / "she said" !!!!

Agreed - it's not a question of "he said " or "you didn't complain when"

The question is whether it's appropriate to have a line at the bottom of every post that is not called for and offensive.

It would be appropriate to change the signature really Andrew.

a bit cowardly really.

as cowardly as hiding in OT throwing around accusations and inciteful posts in the hope of getting a response from me ... I mean nobody would do that, would they

The question is whether it's appropriate to have a line at the bottom of every post that is not called for and offensive.

And my point is that it is strange that you lot chose to berate me publically for this supposed travesty, and yet none of you have ever made a comment in public about mello on the numerous occasions that he has done the same thing.

Double standards, much ?
