ozboy Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 If you're wondering kiddies - lots of bass & distortion. Will also be used for surround sound home theatre, but my existing satellite speakers will be the rears My home theatre area is such that I will only be 3 metres from the front speakers - therefore don't want speakers that are 'overkill' So what fronts, centre & sub-woofer do you recommend?
glennb Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 ozboy said: If you're wondering kiddies - lots of bass & distortion. Does it really matter in that case? Take some of your distortion along to some shops and buy the ones that sound the most distorted to you
cody1382 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 try the paradigm 11"s boston acustics v3 thats waht i got klipsch f-3 or rf 82"s if ya wana good sub ya gonna have to spend heaps what breed of amp you got dude
PCORF Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 He was referring to the distortion of the guitars, not the amps distorting. I think you'll need a big pair of tower speakers.
Adman454 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 You can try the B&W 683's. They love that stuff.
moochy1503560064 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 yep B&W 683 about the only 3 way you can get for around the 2k mark. would leave some change for something else too!
cody1382 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 yeah i wa just wondering how many watts his amp threw out im listening to hell yeah at the moment an my system sounds unreal but yeah definetly go the big floor standers if ya budgets tight go the klipsch f-3 syergy series cause dude you aint listening to opera so no point goin for full on audiophile gear just want prferably somn with a mid driver
moochy1503560064 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 yep i wouldnt want to be running a set of speakers like the 683 without a dedicated power amp behind them.

I noticed in another thread you were at one stage looking at the 683 What price did you pay for the VR3? Edited February 2, 2008 by ozboy
SDL Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 If you live anywhere near me - I can recommend some great headphones
cody1382 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 dude i just thought they sounded better i paid about 2500 for them probally the cheapest 3 way set youll get too probally the only others that i really wanted where the paradigms wicked
icebox425 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I had a listen to lots of different speakers, including the 684s and 683s. My budget was $2k and I ended up with the Boston VR2s which are very similar to the VR3s but retail for $2k (picked them up for about $1600). The only others I would have considered in the price range are the Paradigm Monitors or Studio series. However, seeing as you can afford up to 3k checkout the Neuphonix. Apparently they're where its at, and going off the sound of my Epicentrix, they must be pretty awesome. They retail for $3200 so you should be able to pick them up for around $2700.
yamapro Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 The Neuphonix are about as gutsy as any speaker under $3k - worth a listen for sure...
Trofius Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) I think the JBL E100 would be great at playing rock, metal, dance music for about the $1200-$1500 mark, or the L890 for around the $2k will sound much better lending themselves more to Listening music, but still offer heaps of punch. The L890 will go down to 28hz as well so maybe no need for a sub, as most music wont go that low anyways. Edited February 3, 2008 by trofius
Abaddon Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I listened to the Krix Neuphonix, Boston VR3s and B&W 683s, and for hard rock and metal found the Neuphonix and VR3s much better than the B&W's. The Bostons are better value for money, but are a discontinued model. Go for the Krix.
cody1382 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 discontinued? they still have them on there site. bugger them be some good speakers
Abaddon Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I agree, the VR2/3s are great for hard rock. Yeah apparently Boston is re-evaluating its position in the market place (considering going aiming at more entry-level gear). VR2/3s are dirt cheap in the US these days.

G'day mate, Krix Neuphonix and Krix Epicentrix and Krix Seismix 5, and you definitely can't go wrong. Otherwise, if the budget doesn't stretch that far, Krix Phoenix, Krix Centrix and Krix Seismix 3. joz Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I'd suggest the high efficiency high powered Klipsch towers.
kb10000 Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 ozboy said: If I did the same with Nile, they'd probably committ themselves... Heh, phrygian sweep arpeggios to the max. I was watching some guitar tutes they did a couple of weeks back, they sure play some wacky guitars. Seriously though, if you are listening to something like Opeth, you may want to consider expanding your requirements from distortion^23 - or are you just into full blown death metal? CARCASS ftw!
cody1382 Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 the rf 82's from klipsch would be a good choice i recon they where originly my first choice. kinda give you the impresion you couldnt killm with a sledge hammer
