Hi Living... I had the Rotel 1068, rcd 1072 for a long time and was very happy with the setup so can only say nice work I'll be your system sounds sweeeettttttt :)

Cheers RodN.

It is a great combination that i recommend to anyone. I got most of my ideas from this board so i should really thank all on here for the great advice, especially Al and Kiwimeat.

Makes me curious to now know if youve upgraded too, since you 'used' to have the above? And how do you find your new setup?

I was running the 1068 as a 2ch pre right up until a few weeks ago when I picked up an Elektra 2ch pre and power amps so still have it but just for HT duties now. I picked up a Marantz SA15 about 3 months ago now which replaced the Rotel.

Pricier upgrades which cast no aspersions on the Rotel gear IMO - very nice gear the rotel stuff at it's price point.

Very nice Rod, seems Elektra is fast becoming a fan favorite on the board also. Unfortunately i haven't had the chance to Demo the Elektra gear yet but i do wonder how you find the Elektra pre compared to the 1068?

Also do you mind me asking what mains are you running? As happy as i am with my symphonix i find myself wanting more from my speakers in 2ch and am thinking this will be my first upgrade.

I totally agree with you on the price point comment too. At first i was considering a yammie or Denon AVR for around 2.5-3k, chose to go the seperates for only a little more and it was the best "little more" i ever spent.

The clarity and power of a good 2ch just makes me want to sit there and listen to music for hours.

Here's mine:

CD Player: Densen B-400XS

Turntable: Thorens TD-850 w/Rega RB-300 Tonearm

Cartridge: Ortofon Kontrapunkt C

Phonostage Thorens TP-302

Integrated Amp: Densen B-150

Speakers: Focal-JM Lab Elektra 1007BE

Cabling: Nordost & DH Labs

I'm very happy with the system and I don't forsee any upgrades in the near future outside of new speaker cabling perhaps.

For the record, my 2ch parts are:

CD/DVD Player: Meridian G98DH

Pre-amp: Meridian G68J

Speakers: Meridian DSP5200 (active)

Subwoofer: SGR 'Wingnut' 10" (crossover in preamp at 80Hz)

Cabling: Transparent Audio digital/ Van den Hul silver

Support: Silent Running Audio platform (calibrated for G98)

Seemed appropriate given the unusual shape.

wohoo they are on their way nice going. Since hearing these subs at Johna's I have had restless nights, they are a brilliant piece of work IMO.

Drop round end of August - new processor, room correction, sub integrated, speakers will be running at 24/96....

I'm thinking at the moment of selling my MF amp and moving to an Elektra Theatron + 2ch pre with HT bypass, such as the Elektra or MF. I'd then like to upgrade my turntable and add a dedicated CD player (low priority as the Sony does a great job with RBCD imo).

pretty happy with it at the moment though!

It's very good mate. I got it a few years ago as a demo for about $1200. Auditioned it against a couple of players in the $1500-2000 area (can't remember which ones) and it beat them handily. Recently compared it with a Consonance 2.2 and couldn't tell much difference. The Consonance (valve) player had better separation but the Thule had better speed and impact. Nothing to choose in the midrange or bass.

I've heard better soundstages but there is no hint of glare or harshness and the Thule seems to mate up well with the MEs and the Dyns - it is Danish after all :)

DG, one added bonus to having the 7 ch x 185w Theatron is you can use 4 channels to passively biamp the mains to get a bit more current also - it is so very versatile, which is why I'll probably never sell it

This Theatre biamping option is what I have been doing with my B&W 802D. I reckon the Theatron has the same sound and depth as the Elektra Reference in this mode. (I currently run the 6,7th channels off the avr, which it can cope with fine.)

hi norpus, thats how i was thinking i would set it up, as i only run a 5.1 speaker set-up and my speakers can be bi-amped/wired. interesting to hear your thoughts on the bi-amped theatron vs the reference, which i have also considered as an option after hearing (and being impressed by) spearmint's.

no shortage of good choices, but the Elektra does seem to represent great BFYB.

yes a bit of a suprise the sony, was only planning to use it for SACD, but liked it with CD so much i put that idea on the back-burner

still dabbling with vinyl, unfortunately i think unfortunately my Technics TT has had it, so not doing much listening atm

thanks JohnA. i agree they are both excellent and im sure i'd be happy with either, just need to catch one at the right price and right time. i was actually dead keen on yours, but was about to go OS for a month, so timing wise jsut wasnt meant to be unfortunately. same with Al's A5cr sadly :(

nevermind, theres always another bargain!!
