LBM Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 A webcam would be an improvement over 576p at times. Seven should be ashamed and embarassed now for being the joke of the digital world. If they changed (even 720p) I would start watching again but for now I get better quality elsewhere.

Definitely a noticeable improvement on the 576p! Anthony can we now have seven network programs included in your excellent HD guide for the lucky Prime and Southern Cross viewers out there.
captaineos Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Ha! I am patiently waiting for Home and Away after the tennis, what's the bet its back to 288p?
anthonysimilion Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I'll certainly have to think about that one. Here's what I said about adding Prime HD programming in the HD guide thread: anthonysimilion said: I don't have access to Prime HD - the only listings I could do would be Seven 576p listings! The guide is still intended to be mainly based on Perth listings - although when I do come across small variations, such as a movie that is being shown elsewhere, I'll include it. But taking on the Prime HD listings would be much more difficult. I have a feeling that there would be quite a few differences in program times and actual programs between Seven 576p and Prime HD.

Here are a few of captainatomic's screenshots, that have been deinterlaced and resized: Screenshot 01 Screenshot 02 Screenshot 03 Screenshot 04 The boy's hand in the last screenshot now looks slightly better digitalj . In my opinion the first screenshot is the best, and looks far better than the 576p Seven broadcast here in regional QLD. stickeylabel,
captaineos Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Sticky label,, you liked the first screenshot so I have re done it for you. Only the interlaced parts were deinterlaced (the ticker bar), everythign else was kept as is. resized to 1080p Check it out here : http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/7742/pr...d1080i1b3sq.jpg Compare it to yours, it has 50% more resolution basically

captaineos Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Here is the clip http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/811821/?rel=1169702717 Everyone should know how to download torrents, if not then sorry this is 2007.
minchjp Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I don't think sunrise is as good as today in terms of HD quality, but it is nice to see that channel 7 does have a 1080i setup.
abdelrm Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 very true but it is considerably sharper once again, Prime well done and thanks to Captainatomic for the video and pictures
LBM Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Any chance of a H&A clip for comparison later tonight? BTW, still downloading the torrent - these things take forever, no wonder I don't use them... Either way, thanks for making it available to the rest of us .
Junkyard Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 is it only prime doing HD , or 7 sydney doing it now too ? my HDTV card is still saying 576p so guess not
captaineos Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 @LBM - Torrents are great! Blame my crappy (yet highest plan they offer) optusnet broadband connection. hopefully others will seed once their dowload is complete. Public torrents are generally (IMO) not to great, but if you can get onto a private torrent site then speeds on a well seeded torrent can easily max out your conection. Webscheduler should record Home and Away and ill post my findings asap
ckent Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Why do I get the feeling that somebody at Seven HQ just developed a stitch and needs a panadol? 14.7Mbps? Damn. Very very nice. With the latest encoders, that'll do nicely. Do you think some Prime viewers are going to seed torrents for capital city residents now? :-) CK. PS, can we get a torrent of the HD demo loop please? Does Prime broadcast it ever?
anthonysimilion Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 ckent said: PS, can we get a torrent of the HD demo loop please? Does Prime broadcast it ever? AFAIK Prime doesn't broadcast the Seven 'HD' demo loop.
abdelrm Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Here is a capture I found while searching for Prime HD Prime HD This was a test transmission they did in Canberra Picture Credit: Winston, May 2005
anthonysimilion Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 picture.perfect said: Here is a capture I found while searching for Prime HD Yes, we were all looking closely at that, at the time. Unfortunately, after teasing their HD viewers with a 1080i HD logo for a while, they changed it to a 576p logo, and then commenced 576p broadcasting. Meanwhile, in some areas, Southern Cross were broadcasting Seven programs in 1080i. Fast forward to today, and Prime has started broadcasting actual 1080i programming.
BlueDusk Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Can confirm they're broadcasting in 1080i here in Sydney (well, Wollongong) as well... Elementary Stream PID 4600 (0x11f8) MPEG-2 Video MPEG Video: Bitrate 90.000 Mbps Resolution 1440 x 1080i MPEG Video: Framerate 25 fps Aspect Ratio 16:9 Chroma Format 4:2:0 I wonder what happened to 7's objections... Edit: Is Home and Away field dropped or blended? Doesn't seem that sharp
captaineos Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Lol REST ASSURED if PRIME remains 1080i I'll eat my hat AND buy a HD PVR. This would make PRIME broadcast Desperate Housewives, Prison Break and Ugly betty at 1080p-amazing considering the US networks FOX and ABC are only 720p. I would love to seed some torents, but with an upload of ~27kbs its a joke. 1500kbits ADSL, great! until you realise upload is a slowww 256kbits I forgot to mention Home and Away is in 1080p. 1080i weave the 2 feilds together for a full resolution 1080p. Dont argue with me please... @Winston, originally I thought 1080 SpF 25 but your right it should be MUCH sharper (to refresh my eyes I opened up a 1080p MPEG 2 TS) and realised Home and Away does not have as much detail as you'd expect. However its full of edge enhancements? Looks like someone's gone a little too crazy with sharpening. It seems to me as though they shot it in 1080i and then did a field drop or field blend resulting what is essentially 1440x540p, this shot here is weave deinterlaced: http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5453/weave7nt.jpg This is blend deinterlaced: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/8409/blend6kt.jpg Doesn't really seem to be any difference to me leading me to the conclusion above.
laurie Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 On my pc home and away is still 576p! cheers laurie
anthonysimilion Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 You're not watching Prime though, Laurie? Seven isn't going 1080i, still 576p.

Does Prime broadcast it ever? Well seeing that you're in Sydney, you might be able to get Prime with a good UHF aerial pointed south. I get Prime using an indoor aerial. Though at this point with the limited content I've seen, I'm not too sure whether it is native 1080i or whether Prime is just internally upscaling the 576p. Unfortunately with the tennis on, there isn't nearly as much HD as they usually would be.
