I seems to have the best PQ with 5.1 analogue for those that need it for a decent price (ie up to $500US less than the pana). Momaw the sony does have 24p output so Its a good choice but the new samsung has a few things going for it too [ If you can forgive the first effort] 1- msrp is 800 -sony 1000 2- it has a hqv de-interlacer/scaler 3-it has a dolby digital plus decoder the sony currently doesnt 4- it is supposedly due out in march 5-it can scale ntsc sd dvd to 1080p 6- it has hdmi ver 1.3 The question of 24p is still up in the air however with it

I'm suprised sony even released it ! But in a way that is a plus for the sony. It *is* the pioneer in a different chasis. End result, pioneer player, sony badge, half the price. Anyways, I was only using it as an example of the current crop. With luck they should all have gen 2's out within a few months.

It's also the same price as the new Denon 2390 that has exactly the same scaler, but without HD DVD support.

Pure madness.

I agree its worth the money if multi-region but not only in hd-dvd as now but would be nice if they kept multi region on sd-dvd as per all dvd players on our market now.

I wouldn't use the PS3 as a dedicated player either although I have to say I've seen it doing Blu-Ray movie playback and was quite surprised just how good it was (it did run very warm though) I'm sure they'll get some converts to their format as a result

I do agree Al; just didnt want to rubbish anyone who aspires to 24p jitter free playback It remains to be seen if the hqv chip in the samsung matches the top notch reon in the HD E1X. If you dont like the samsung would you consider the phillips ? Now theres reliability

You make your bed, you lie in it. I couldnt care who and where members buy their gear from, so long as they know the risks involved in buying things much cheaper on EBay. I for one would be very hesitant to spend that kinda money on EBay.
