When and where Nathan? I am still struggling to catch up with you.

Should be in and setup the weekend before Xmas (22nd)

Will PM you with address, very close to your work

The Focals are the 707S Chorus line. 500mm high bookshelf with 7" woofer

They are a fun speaker, great for playing loud rock music. Bass is solid but never boomy, well rounded. They aren't the last word in detail and can be quite bright with bright sounding electronics. They sound better on my NAD then they do with a Bel Canto.

In comparison the 705 doesn't have as much bass, but a better quality. Voices also sound deeper and more natural with a more pin point centre image

The 707s are more inline with B&W 685 which I've also owned. They were a fairly fun speaker that just played music and didn't get caught up with the HiFi of it all - well rounded, work well in bedrooms where serious listening isn't required

Thanks for the insight. Really love the look and finish of them, tough yet understated. I once ran Focal poly glass splits in my cars and regret letting them go... Fingers crossed some Chorus's or early Osborns pop up when it's time to upgrade.

Quick snap of the study system with the new Redgum. Bit disappointed with the quality of the Redgum compared to the ENR model i foolishly let go.

will have some more photos soon

Interesting comment on the Redgum mate. Perhaps you have moved on a bit since those days.

Great to see you have room to move now :thumb: .

Oh no i love the amp, the sound they make is great. Such a chunky midrange, even compared to the Melody.

But the fit and finish isnt anywhere near the one that you own. No blue light, no nice backing plate, matt finish on the chassis, the Redgum badge is crooked. Those ENR models really are the go imo

Understood.

Has it had the remote mod done?

  • Author

no, missing that aswell

I can live without that at the moment, helps me lose the belly. That or the music stays louder :)

Pity.

Forgot to say your B&Ws look great. Better get around for a listen.......soon.

Looks great RAOR. I also like the unit it's all sitting on too.

Yeah, I had exactly the same thought.

Just out of interest R&R ,where did you get the entertainment unit? it looks fabulous and the VAFs match to perfection.

Well done mate,it looks sensational :thumb:

The unit is made in Adelaide (Propsect) but i bought it from Classic Timber Furniture on Anzac Highway. They dont stock this line anymore unfortunately.

It wasnt cheap, solid Tasmanian Blackwood top and legs, veneer shelves and sides. Cost me $1400 a few years ago and took a month to make. Matches the VAF's perfectly. I keep it clean with a good beeswax every now and then

The furniture crowd looked at me a bit funny when i went to buy it, they assumed i went in for the cheapy stained pine stuff. Were quite happy to see a young bloke enthusiastic about his furniture.

My other rack in the study is the same timber but from a darker tree and a better finish. Ill get some pics of that soon. Tas Blackwood is very hit and miss apparently, you can either have a ridiculously light coloured unit that almost looks like beach, or you can have a nice dark deep finish like a jarrah. I would have preferred some more character to the Ent unit above but you get what you get unfortunately.

Looking great mate :thumb:

The phono stage in it is brilliant, hence why ive sold everything else. Ive also simplified my whole approach to this stuff. Less is more and all that. I just want to keep things looking clean

Thanks for looking

Bast@rd, seriously, looks great and I'm coming to listen ..... one day

I fear seeing/hearing such things. One day.

This is my current Bedroom system. NAD 565 which doubles as my DAC and CDP. DAC side is run from a Musiland converter off my PC on the other side of the room. Amp is a NAD 355 and doubles as my headphone amp. Headphones are ATH ES10's. Speakers are John Blue JB4 on B&W stands.

Its a great little system, and these JB4's constantly surprise me

You have come a long way Nathan . And I'm sure your old Reg has gone to a good place. ;)

Thought you would have digital scales for setting Tracking force.

The orange glow still looks like it belongs , very nice setup :thumb:

"bargain Luxman" I never got that email...

Very noice RaoR :thumb:
