50mxe20 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Rush- R30Many music dvds... Regards Grassy Lots of ideas there. Would you care to rank them from your favourite to the least favourite? ( I know that's a personal issue but it might be fun? How many are DTS? etc
treb Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Drummerboy01, Impresive list I was wondering what you think is the better Rush DVD? Soundwise and/or picturewise? I only have Rush cds at the moment and will be getting a (or more than one) dvd SOON Thanks Grassy, trebor
drummerboy01 Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Lots of ideas there. Would you care to rank them from your favourite to the least favourite? ( I know that's a personal issue but it might be fun? How many are DTS? etc All the dvds that are listed there, that others in the forum have got also, are on dts like the popular eagles and bee gees and orbison etc, that you see often in shops. My favourites are my beatles anthology on laser disc and all of my Rush stuff and Kansas. All the prog rock, anything with great music ability i really like. Being a drummer for the past 30 years, i have come to understand what it takes to keep a band together, so all these bands like , Rush, yes, kansas, if they put something out regardless of the sound track, i'll get it anyway. Me personally, i like to pick the really good points out of what i buy and learn more about what i am interested in. For example all my rush stuff is reallya buzz for me because thier music is always changing with massive guitar riffs. I like the back in the us dvd also(dts) as maccas band sounds even better than wings did. I think macca is pretty happy with this band and that says something as maccas last band was with ian paice on drums(deep purple) and david gillmore(pink floyd) on guitar. Now that says a heap for this band he is with now. I remember watching top of the pops in 1964 and seeing the Beatles and you just knew something big was about to happen.I would never swap my birth cetificate for anything. There is no least favourite as i get different things out of every disc. Also another dvd to get is page and plant called no quarter(dts) that is great. Especially Kashmir. Regards Grassy
drummerboy01 Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Drummerboy01,Impresive list I was wondering what you think is the better Rush DVD? Soundwise and/or picturewise? I only have Rush cds at the moment and will be getting a (or more than one) dvd SOON Thanks Grassy, trebor Ok, firstly let me tell you that i am a Rush Fan, and a big one at that. I would buy anything on Rush regardless of sound or picture. But to answer your question i would say the best sound would come from R30 or grace under preasure. Rush in Rio went wrong somewhere along the line and dosn"t sound the best at times. But in its defence the guys are great and the drum solo is one of my favourites. R30 has great footage of the boys when they were younger and is timeless. Also the special features on Rush in Rio is great. The fans in rush in rio are charged like you wouldnt believe, actually there bl......dy mad. Just like a soccer crowd. I know of a lot of people who dont like Rush and they find it hard to take Geddy"s screaming vocals, but if you read the words to there songs, you will see why Geddy really is a good singer. I could not picture a singer taking his place. And to play the riffs on his Bass that he plays and sing at the same time is really an art. If you like what you read and here on your cd's, dont be afraid to venture out and take it that one step more regardless of a perfect sound.Let technology run its course. Regards Grassy
hired goon Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 G'day, Ok, firstly let me tell you that i am a Rush Fan, and a big one at that. I would buy anything on Rush regardless of sound or picture. I only ever liked the 76-81 stuff from Rush -- the move to synths that began with "Signals" didn't appeal to me. I don't really listen to Rush anymore anyway, save for "Jacob's Ladder", "Hemispheres" and "Tom Sawyer", which are permanently in my MP3 player. Fantastic drumming in "Jacob's Ladder". If yer into prog rock dvds and Dream Theater, M. Garçon de Batteur le Premier, have you checked out the DVD of DT drummer's side project "Transatlantic"? That might be up yer alley. --Geoff
treb Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 (edited) Cool answers guys, I will have to check out both those disks Grassy. I wonder if it is the same venue as Iron Maiden in Rio? hehehe And yes I am also interested in the Transatlantic one. mmmmmm Dreamtheater Cheers Hired Goon I have been re-reading some of the earlier posts and was wondering if fattchoi had ever found a disk with Smoke on the water live??? I can say that it is done brilliantly by Satriani, Vai and Petruccci on the G3 Live in Tokyo! And Spearmint, did you ever get that The Guess Who DVD? If so how is it? I am considering tracking it down and getting it myself. Actually now I think I am gonna spend 5 min searching my cds for the Live in Paramount disk  And I will listen to the G3 concert again while I look for it 1 1/2 hours till Super 14 rugby starts for the evening Well the Kiwi game at 5:30 followed by the NSW vs Queensland game that is. i forgot about the Seth Africin games. trebor Edited February 11, 2006 by trebor

Spearmint Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 And Spearmint, did you ever get that The Guess Who DVD? If so how is it? I am considering tracking it down and getting it myself.trebor My apologies Trebor, I missed your post. Yes I did get the DVD in and I have also seen it for sale at JB HiFi. Because I am a bit of a fanatical Guess Who fan, I guess I overlook some of the failings of this recording. It is recorded during a thunderstorm and amazing how the dedicated crowd stayed. Anyway both the video and audio are below par, I would rate the video lower than the audio, although a brilliant concert IMO. May take on it would be Video *** Audio **** Content *****
treb Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Thanks Spearmint I ordered it yesterday from DVD Soon, along with Chris Isaak and Rush in Rio Frankston is the closest JB to me and they didn't have it so what the heck, I ordered 3 to get free delivery. Don't care how long it takes as I have plenty to listen to in the meantime. Cheers all, and goodnight. trebor
mickj11503560102 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 The Chris Isaak Sound stage is OK, but not up to the quality of Lyle Lovett/Randy Newman or the Tom Petty ones. You can pick up a couple of Guess Who tracks on Toronto Rocks - American Woman and No Time - but unfortunately you won't be able to "follow your daughter home" Cheers Mick

Honest Gaza Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 (edited) Sticking with the "good quality theme" John Denver, the Wildlife Concert (live performances and video clips) Heart, Live in Seattle (the acoustic guitar and clarity of the voice for "Alone" is brilliant) Eagles, Hell Freezes Over Robbie Williams, Albert Hall (truly a showman....by the time he does "My Way", you'll be clapping too) Dixie Chicks, Live (.....the song about the "Soldier" will bring tears to your eyes, as will the balad about a father who has his son taken away by the mother) I also have some music DVD's which sound absolutely crap, so I won't list these. redmosquito Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 The Beastie Boys Criterion Collection is pretty awesome for anyone who likes their hip-hop/rap Just a collection of their music videos but the 5.1 is pretty nice...got the whole room shaking with some nice bass!
Ted1503559509 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 had a listen to Dire STraits Brothers in Arms, the dts transcoded from SACD, impressive. recommended.
Mjr69 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 A pretty good deal from AIX : http://www.aixrecords.com/newsletter/newsletter6.html For $99.96 (and yes Mark Waldrep said he will not quibble about 4 cents) you can get a couple of collector's edition titles or 4 titles of your choice + 2 freebies discs and 2 free samplers - and he will also pick up the additional postage charge. 8 discs for US$100 seems like good value to me

Does anyone have any recommendations of titles from this site?

You seem to be taking it quite well though !! Not like someone who brought a Fuji plasma on other peoples recommendations !!!! Austen.
Mjr69 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I have only one of their titles - Guitar Noir by Laurence Juber and I have listened to it many times as both a nicely recorded demo disc and as background music. But music is in the ear of the beholder
