I made up some RG213U about a year and a half ago. I have been positive towards experimenting with cables for close to 40 years and have a/b'ed a lot of highend cables.

Not having the money for these I have played around with cables, cross sectional area, different typologies etc and have found the RG213 to be that good, it has been in my system for 18 months or more. I compared it to Ocoss ,Flatline, DNM and Supra and found it to be superior to the lot.Only thing I found slightly negative was that it sounded like **** initially. After a couple of days of running, it got very good.

If I had the money I would surely experiment with ultra cables but when I introduced this cable it was a revelation. I am not in a hurry to spend thousands on anything else. Especially until I have the actual components completely sorted. Interesting to read your comparisons. ?

Bill's single ended interconnect is another cable I can thoroughly recommend if you are on a budget. Still in my system after a year.

Yes Bill's interconnects are excellent value. About $50 for a pair from memory.

Thanks. I had to rearrange the power cables this morning which involved dismantling everything and removing the components and taking all the records out of the unit just so I could pull it out and move a plug two sockets to the right....
Anyway I swapped the Audio Principe cables I was using from the phono amp with the QED Reference Audio 40 I was using from my CD player. Wow. So much more detail and transparency. So I am going to buy a half metre pair of those. They have worked brilliantly with my CD player and have delivered amazing results with my phono stage now.

I've got a one metre pair of QED Ref40 and although being good, I feel Bill's cables are better. The QED's are a bit fatter in the lower midrange which tends to warm over the frequency response. Good for streaming Tidal thru my Topping D10. Bills cable are flatter and more natural. I use them from Phono pre to Preamp and from there to my power amps. Good stuff.

Installed Bills cables last week and was going to give them a prolonged listen before calling it but after four sessions nothing has really changed. They sounded great from the outset and have not really changed very much over the past few days. Easily matched the QED Reference Audio 40 as far as I can detect. Everything I was looking for is there and I have saved $150 in the process. Extremely good in the context of my system. ?

Bought this RB900 today from a forum member. I originally had a RB220 fitted with an Origin counterweight (now on the 900). I really didn't expect a significant improvement in SQ and mainly wanted to upgrade to an arm that would fit my arm board but had anti skate adjustment so I could try other cartridges. Can someone please explain why this arm sounds so much better? The level of detail from a well known recording is stunning. A great and inexpensive upgrade. 20191114_180516.jpeg20191114_180541.jpeg

Probably better bearing tolerances and arm rigidity brought about by the material used.

So after all of my praise for my CD22 I'm moving it on. Or trying to. Its not a failing of the CD22 which more than held its own with an analogue set up costing more than twice as much. I have for quite a while coveted a streaming device to round out my systems choices of sources and have been perilously close to pulling the trigger on a Bluesound Node. My ideal would have been a Prisma equipped CD player after falling in love with the performance of Primare products but the price was a little prohibitive. Then while Googling the CD35 an ad came up for an ex demo with $1700 off the price. While the fact it was black as opposed to Titanium was unfortunate I could not resist.

Its on its way and I eagerly look forward to its arrival.

So there we are. Not the ideal aesthetically but after a listen tonight I'm really impressed. More detail and transparency and the bass really has some impact. Brass and acoustic guitar gained a nice dose of extra realism too. Still waiting for the Prisma card but its been good to just have a listen to the CD side of things. Still have the CD22 for sale. ?

Got its ears the other day however I have been away holidaying. The mismatch in colors hasn't been as distracting as I thought and has its own particular vibe. Installing the card was easy however making Chromecast work took a bit of time due to my relative lack of experience with it. Initially I couldn't get anything from it while streaming although it appeared to be connected to my IPad and when I checked the CD player that wouldn't work either. Ultimately found that after setting up Chromecast it defaults to variable output so it was simply a matter of changing it back to fixed. There was no information in the documentation I could find about this and it was a bit of good luck in the fault finding department for me.

After setting Spotify streaming to best quality and "quiet" for preserved dynamics it sounded pretty good. Ill give Tidal a go with the free intro and intend to set up a music server with  a hard drive for downloads. I do love how this player plays CDs though.

Speaking of too long between drinks or posts.

Ive not been on this forum for a while for reasons of no interest to anyone however my system has undergone some minor tweaks.

Last year i decided to try a MC cartridge. With mixed feelings I purchased a Denon DL103R. My mixed feelings were around some of its characteristics being described as "warm", which I always regard as level of compromised transparency. Not all attributed this characteristic however another issue was compliance for a Rega arm. Again some opinions were that this was a catastrophic mix and others that it was largely irrelevant. One of the "great" things about living in Adelaide it that there are virtually no HiFi dealers anymore and even if one carried this cartridge I suspect no on would be happy for you to "audition" one. The biggest risk here though, and one I have all but completely learned from experience, is that of trying to save a few hundred dollars on a significant purchase.

What I really wanted was an Audio Technica AC-OC9 XSL. I loved the sound of my AT MM, that of transparency, and this seemed like a great choice when pursuing a MC. But of course at twice the price of the Denon..

So with the Denon installed? It sounded like my system was playing through a sheet. Let it run in. Yes. Some claimed 40 hours others 60. I purchased a "cap" which was supposed to improve "things".

To be fair, it seemed to improve with use and I can understand what some people like about this thing. There was bass and a mid that for voices sounded sweet. I had a suspicion that these attributes may be a result of rolled off HF but the effect was there. I tried to hear things but it became obvious this wasn't going to work. I was increasingly annoyed and so I sold it and purchased the AT which was like a breath of air of the fresh variety. The attack and decay of cymbals was back and so clear and distinct. This cartridge has done the " I'm hearing things from my collection I didn't know were there" thing. But more surprisingly when playing 50 year old recordings, and records. They are laid bare but instead of exposing undesirable flaws, showing what went on in the recording and in most cases for the better. Led Zepplin II is not a slick production but it sounds amazing. Other more well recorded records are stunning. Sure this is still a modest cartridge in the scheme of MCs and I under no illusion but for these 61 year old ears it is the sound in my head. And finally I will conceded that records can match the sound of CD. Crap! all the worms got out!!!!!! 😄

Did you get rid of all the Bills cables in your system and put them in the bin?

Ha, no I still have them somehwere but I got some balanced cables off him as the CD35 has balanced outputs. For the bargain price it was worth it.

Bin them and have a read of the horror stories associated with that debacle. You will be doing yourself and your gear a favor

I did a quick search but nothing came up. I seem to remember he and another cable maker having an argument about whether he should be offering cables as a side gig when the other guy was trying to make it his legit business. Thats about all.. Personally the ones I have are working admirably?
