Why not the 4000 Cylinder series?

Mainly due to cost and size (height) may be too much.

I reckon if they made a PC-3000 it would become a very popular model. Perhaps they don't offer it because it would steal sales away from the PC-4000.

I've been thinking about moving my centre speaker out of the cabinet and placing it on top. This would improve the centre channel sound and give me some space for a possible turntable in future. I have a few issue with this though:

1) I can't easily mount the tv on the wall because there is an old brick fireplace behind the plaster.

2) The curtains would be in the way even if I could wall mount, this will be even more of an issue when I upgrade to a bigger tv in the future

3) cable hiding would be impossible/extremely difficult

4) I don't like the look of adding another little 'shelf' around the centre speaker with tv on top.

I have seen those adjustable tv stands that I guess I could place behind the cabinet so that it kind of looks like it is floating but these types of stands seem to be limited to 65-70" tvs, also wouldn't the tv then be too high?

Any suggestions?

A few options:

  1. Sit the TV directly on the center speaker.
  2. Attach some bracing to the rear of your TV cabinet and mount to that.
  3. Projector and drop down screen. :)

dont understand why ?you would use an articulated mount so screen will sit possible still in same plane as now just articulated and floating off back wall... and the mount will take VERY large TVs so I wouldn't bother. Selby sells the mount, its quite affordable... get a handy man to come mount it for you if you like if unsure what doing. Selby am sure will have an installer that can assist if need.

nah... check my welcome to my lounge room link.

you just use a simple cable conduit from bunnings. mine is a mesh type. not even noticeable there are cables in there

no need for a shelf to free your centre and TV :)

just how big a TV are you planning ? are you better off going a projector ? for size and quality hard to beat. I would still keep tv as you have wall mounted for every day TV and as per quark motorised screen that drops down the front... can go pretty decent screen size... and probably more in line with the scale of audio in your setup... vs what a TV will achieve ...

When my 50" plasma dies in the living room, my 65" Sony will replace it. Then I will get a 75-85" for this room.

With my room, a 100" (maybe 110") screen would work so that has been my intention every since I got into HT! However I would still have a tv as well.

One thing that I'm not keen on about the wall mount is that the tv will be further back to my eye compared to where it is now. I guess there are always compromises.

I wouldn't necessarily go 75-80" on telly and then 100" drop that seems not much of a differential for it to be worthwhile.. also 75-80" telly all the time there is also a huge thing to be having in the room !? the cost of 75-80 telly is also huge...unless going one of the cheapo LCD with side lit and not much zoning to speak off. idea with the drop down screen is can have still something like a 50-65" and then drop a screen down for larger experience... rather than putting a huge tv in...

perhaps i didnt explain well ... with an articulated mount you can have the TV sitting in same plane... ie same distance to the eye as have now.... so no need for that as compromise. the TV will float off the wall... as mentioned have a peep at link in my signature...

I would at least go for a quality 75".  My thinking was that when the time comes an 85 might be big enough for decent immersion without the need for a projector.

My tv currently sits about 80cm from the wall so I'd be suprised if any mount could safely articulate that far.

So, the other suggestion was something like this but with an articulated arm? To bad my diy skills suck because this would be a good solution.

Here is the back of my unit.

Free yourself of one extra gadget and drop the centre speaker (figuratively).

Hmm, a controversial move. To be honest I've never tried not using the centre speaker.

I've been very patient but finally can enjoy some Atmos and simplifying 4k connections. (Once I get time to set it up)

I'm wondering if I should use the ME amp for my Atmos speakers and use the Elektra for the 7 base channels.

Never tried the Theatron with the ME 24 pre for pure 2 CH.

You could certainly try, but ME amps are meant to be excellent for speakers with low impedance. Even though your Equinox are not one of the 2 Ohm rated models, I'd suspect they still have a large impedance dip in bass frequencies.

Tv is now wall mounted so I can place my centre speaker on cabinet.
