Oh no ... VAF vs. WAF. WAF wins ....

Could always move them around when the 'boss' is out. Just make sure you remember to get em back in exactly the same spot

Cheers,

Ed

Very nice setup indeed Lebowski! Whats the purpose of the MA-7 consolette?

I think back in its day it was mainly used for recording and mixing Tapes, matching levels etc.

It doesn't do much in my system other than look pretty, the VU Meters display the audio signal from my DAC and Tuner. I can also configure it to display output power of the Amp.

You know with those phono inputs Lebowski, you really need to buy a turntable to use at least ONE of them.

well I've been resisting, trying hard not to think about a turntable but ...

I am beginning to get a little interested

Something like your Technics might do nicely

A Sansui SR-838 would look SUPER UBER!! in your set up Lebowski.

mmm, Sansui TT.

Cheers Mick, I'm going to keep an eye out for something like that Sansui or maybe an old Technics. I have no idea about TT's and will have to ask questions

Great looking amp Lebowski. I love look of the timber hand rails.

How does it sound with your Vaf's?

How does it sound with your Vaf's?

with music such as Acoustic, Jazz and some classical it sounds beautifully detailed, smooth and lifelike (accurate?) Instruments and vocal sound like they are in the room with you, a guitar sounds like a real guitar, notes will hang on longer and there is all that micro detail that makes music sound real. The VAF's are by no means high end and probably not the most refined speaker but the Time Machine balances them out nicely because it's just so smooth. It plays surprisingly loud for just 9 watts, in a smaller room it would be more than enough for most. It is clearly in another league compared to my Sansui system and that's no slouch either.

I'd walk a mile to avoid a cliche , but the best way to describe the Time Machine is 'it makes music sound like real music'

Very nice, mate.

Earle's amp is electronic art, love it  I agree with the above too, the SR-838 would look great.

Those valves look niiiice Lebowski, I think you need more :)

Looking good lebowski Earle does build some fine valve amplifiers ...... the old sansui looks like in very good nick .

  • Author

thanks Pat. Earle makes a mean Amp for sure and I love the sound of my 300B, it is a very different beast to my Sansui gear.

I was lucky to pick up the AU-717 and MA-7, both in almost mint condition. You're welcome to drop in for a listen sometime

I would like to have a listen of the 300B with the vaf speakers one day .

Hey Lebowski,

Do you use the TV through the speakers? How do you have this connected? Didn't you have a Cambridge receiver at one stage?

Just wondering if you use the tubes for movie watching etc or do you switch over to another amp?

  • Author

I have optical out of DVD and TV into the DAC and use the Sansui for this. At one stage I was using the 300B for movies but now have more cables and have set things up so I can switch Amps in just a few minutes.

Very nice, clean and understated Lebowski.

Now, really you do need a turntable round off the system. the Pixies are awesome on vinyl, as is most Indie music

Ah, cool. I was trying to decide how I would go about having a tube amp for listening to music and a receiver for HT, and remembered this setup, so that's good to know.

I was figuring i'd end up with two runs of speaker cable and swapping them over when needed using banana plugs or something. Access to the rear of the speakers seems like the easiest thing.

Anyway, nice clean setup... Looks great!
