Advice re audio setup for Charity CAFE assisting young adults with disabilities

Featured Replies

Further to this successful post I made in March this year

http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php/topic/98915-car-magazines-needed-for-charity-supporting-young-adults/?hl=charity

I ending up making 8 x car-theme CAFE table-tops using the car magazines donated by a generous SNA member. Thanks again :)

My wife works for the Compass Institute that supports young disabled adults on the Sunshine Coast.

She manages the new diner-style cafe on the Sunshine Coast assisting young adults with disabilities to be trained to be employable as Front of house workers in a Cafe environment.

Grand opening is next week.

I have already mounted & setup the TV for them, and I have now offered to assist in setting up the audio system, but I am unsure what may be the best solution.

I can suggest they buy a 2nd hand amp, receiver, CD player etc, but I think streaming is the best 'set and forget' solution ie pick a streaming supplier, pick a genre, hit the GO button.

The only streaming experience I have is with my Squeeze box touch, but I don't have another streaming device.

So, I am asking the broader SNA community for suggestions.

  • They are having a PC installed & connected to the internet. Which is being setup this week.
  • They will be offering free wifi in the CAFE. Can I use this as part of a solution???
  • There is a HDMI cable from the PC to the back of the TV location. Can this be used as a wired streaming location?
  • There is a CAT5 cable from the PC to the back of the TV location. Can this be used as a wired streaming location?
  • Which streaming supplier?
  • Running speaker cables across the refurbished ceiling may be difficult, or not. I am yet to assess this.

They also want indoor and outdoor speakers, as there is a large outdoor seating area and lawn area.

A pair of speakers inside and a pair outside would suffice.

There are powerpoints available inside the cafe, so maybe a wireless active solution may be suitable!?

There is a small budget available, but being a charity running on a shoe string, I reckon the budget may only be in the vicinity of a couple of hundred dollars or so.

If there is an optimum solution for a bit more, who knows. Stranger things have happened.

So, I am looking for advice from the SNA community about how to best setup a 'set and forget' audio solution.

Please let me know if you are able to help with any ideas.

Don't presume I know anything useful about streaming. :(

Thanks
Graham.

I'm happy to donate $100 to the audio set-up if that helps.

Woah, @@Kaynin that offer is out of the park. :)

Thank you for your generosity.

I'm sure the Compass Institute will happily accept your unexpected generous offer.

I'll find today out what is the easiest way for you to get the money to them eg bank details etc...

Thanks again, I'm blown away. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I will donate as well, great stuff Gee Emm. My son has autism so I know the value of people like you and companies like the Compass Institute.

@@Kaynin  & @@Darren69 if you PM me your name, address etc, they can post you a tax invoice.

Thanks to you also @@Darren69 . I'm blown away!

I'm almost sure that donations over $2 to the Compass Institute are tax deductible :thumb:

So, after lots of confusing reading, I think the most reliable set and forget solution is to install 2 x Sonos Play 1.

Generous donations have certainly helped on this regard.

Hopefully I can pick up a 2nd pair.
