TheBrightSide Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 If it wasn't for WAF, Bose wouldn't sell any speakers.
Guest jakeyb77 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Just spoke to a guy who I sold an amplifier to a while back. He always wanted a pair on NS1000's but his wife would kill him. Anyway messaged me and told me he got a pair of NS2000's recently. I asked how the wife took it and I got the response "I'm single now better". I know they are awesome speakers but geez....
Peter_F Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 WAF - Wife Acceptance Factor - I've to come terms with my wife and accept the way she is. I don't think she'll change much after 25 years of marriage but you never know. This is my WAF. 1

I have a joint account that I deposit enough in for half household expenses. The rest is my account and what I spend it on is my business. Also best to keep a secret account. And if you don't think every woman has a secret stash of cash then you don't know them well enough.

billyboyrm Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 (edited) Well Jake, it always pays to have a stash - you just never ever know when you might need it. I don't have WAF issues. My partner has his hobbies and I have mine. We both like watching DVDs and good TV series. My passion is classical music and some jazz, his is gardening - hence the 2 acre block - which I endorsed as it meant that I can play my music as loud as I like and no neighbour issues either. Win win all around. We also like cars - hence we agreed on a Giulietta a couple of years ago in addition to the 4WD. It is a manual and has ludicrous mode - which is used all the time. We do get funny looks from the local highway patrol - being 2 white haired old farts growling down the road - but then I know most of the local peacekeepers by first name now - and not because of any fines or naughty things, but just they do a good job and need more encouragement. End of rant. Now I have my beady eyes set on a new HD projector. Must see what is on offer for cheap $$$. Edited April 20, 2016 by billyboyrm 3

If you share a house then that's what you have to do... share. The moment you walk into your house feeling like a guest is the day you stop living. That extends both ways. There are things in the house I put up with. Like the endless amount of cushions that either adorn the bed all day or sit on the floor at night. Anyway sounds like you are doing it right! As for the projector we have a Benq I think HD 3D projector and it is great for movie nights and we both enjoy it. Go buy yours ASAP Edited April 20, 2016 by jakeyb77
billyboyrm Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Thanks for the kind words, like is compromise and relationships always need tweaking. Now for the Benq, I don't really want to have to stick the thing up on the wall - it would only be used for movies which benefit from the 100" screen. We sit around 3.6m from the 55' Panasonic which is mounted on the wall. The screen rolls down in front of that when needed. The coffee table is positioned in front of the seat which would put the lens at 2.5m from the screen. It would have to use lens shift. The HDMI cable is coiled nearby for insertion when needed. My current projector is one of those ALDi ones (very good picture) - but the fan is noisy - just wondering how noisy the benq would be and is there a short throw one?

Hmmm I think mine is short throw. I think ours only cost $600 but people on here seem to still be paying for $3000 machines. For me ours picture is fine but you may be fussier. I would ask @@betty boop to chime in here.....

Your life is about succumbing to a long list of compromises?. Jeepers! No thanks. If my missus finds sometime that makes her happy then I'm happy. Same goes if I'm smiling because of my Hifi then she's happy that I'm happy. Not saying you should always get your way but giving up is not on.
Citroen Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Dear me, Jake...Compromise is not about winning or losing, or giving up. For me, its about finding mutually agreeable solutions. 2

You did say a LONG list so I may have put you in the category of person that gives up everything, not meets half way, and feels down for it. There is a lot of people around like that. Of course it's a thing that suits everyone differently. But if I had to call and ask if I could buy something I might has well stayed 13 under under my mother's rule...
Tony M Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 I don't "have to" ask if i can buy anything. I guess It's more a mutual respect thing that I wouldn't make a major purchase without mentioning it to Mrs M. I'd be more than surprised if I ever got resistance instead of the usual encouragement. Duntech Crown Princes and Apogee Centaur Majors in the main lounge room in the old days didn't cause any dramas and were never expected to do so. I was into audio when we met and it was always understood that biggish speakers and associated electronics were likely to coexist in any living space we shared. She did, however, hint that the recently acquired Avantgardes might work better in the shed than in the living room, an option that was only briefly considered. 3
