This is a great DAC made in Australia by Clay, Gieseler, with lots of fans. Has the premier sigma AKM4497EQ DAC chip. When it comes to conveying instruments, this DAC can take it right up to my upgraded R2R DAC retailing over 4 times as much. Only selling due to the upgraded R2R can do instruments as well as this Gross DAC. I have always used the USB input with XLR output. Well supported on stereo.net.au, with plenty of reviews to be found. This model used to sell for approx $2300 new and the Kraftwerk power supply upgrade is an extra $295. The Kraftwerk upgrade produced a substantial improvement in sound quality in my system, particularly in the soundstage. The improvement from the upgrade is also well reviewed. This DAC was outstanding value at the new price not to mention the asking price here. The unit has the latest firmware upgrade (2006be10).
