  1. its the same as any other entitlement change, eg. channel package change. if you were entitled at the time of making the recording, you will be able to decrypt it for playback even if you are not currently entitled.
  2. I didn't presume anything, but if you are willing to do some basic testing of your own it will help narrow down the problem. as I've already asked: have you tried using the S/PDIF or analog audio output from the IQ2 into a receiver to confirm?
  3. one of two Optus satellites that delivers Foxtel to customers. both Optus C1 and D3 are at 156E.
  4. nope, for some things you really do need the landline. you can't book FBO HD movies any other way.
  5. only very slightly. I would be amazed if the number is in the thousands. there is simply not enough value for the price.
  6. to my knowledge nothing has been committed as far as delivering Foxtel over the NBN. it could make sense to do so for new customers after it is rolled out, but it is far from certain...
  7. not sure - I'm in Melbourne, the store I got mine from said their warehouse had none, but they got one from another store's stock. the same could be true in QLD, but I don't know the specifics.
  8. Tivo is significantly less useful in Australia than it is in the US because you are restricted to FTA which is a huge downside, but there is really no other way - Foxtel/Austar would never let Tivo work with their broadcasts. Tivo sales in Australia have been pretty low due to the full upfront cost sales model employed by 7/Tivo, and the fact that less expensive HD PVRs have been available for longer and basically have the same features. seriously, $799 (at launch) for a box that can only record FTA? I don't know a single person who would be interested at that price. it's surprising they sold any at all, really
  9. but it could be very easily. I doubt Telstra will maintain the HFC network forever.
  10. try Harvey Norman. they seem to be still stocking them.
  11. your question has already been answered by GaryCook above. did you actually read what he wrote? the problem would seem to lie with the video processing in your Bravia. have you tried using the S/PDIF or analog audio output from the IQ2 into a receiver to confirm?
  12. isuggest cracks me up. it was marketed as the great new way to find stuff to watch, and in reality its just an overly limited EPG with some token graphics - adds no value whatsoever. Foxtel would be wise to learn from the way Tivo suggests programs based on previous history and genres. without infringing on their (undoubtedly many) patents that is.
  13. if white doesn't look white, that's not correct (imho). I admit that this is a gross over simplification on my part, but it is also common sense. I have never had a display professionally calibrated so again I will defer to your professional knowledge, but I don't understand how something that doesn't even look remotely white could be considered correct. obviously there is more to consider than white, but would you want to watch a scene with snow or white clouds and have them not be white? we certainly don't - ick.
  14. I will take your word for it, and give your settings a go, but from initial tinkering, warm2 was not at all close to reality ("accurately calibrated" reality or not), producing whites that are more yellow/orange, and not white at all.. at least on this set.
  15. I don't see why not. 3m is enough distance that you shouldn't notice how bad the source is. that said, we try to avoid watching low resolution content like this if at all possible.
  16. to my eyes, warm2 produces orange/yellow looking whites. definitely not accurate. without a professional calibration, I find warm1 is a lot more natural and realistic.
  17. absolutely - as long as the IR receiver works well it is a non-issue for us. couldn't live without the Harmony.
  18. I am loving this TV, but the remote is rubbish. if I'm not pointing it almost dead on, button presses aren't recognised at all, or they are (IR light on the TV flickers) but aren't registered. maybe 10-15 degrees off centre and it's pretty much useless. the Harmony doesn't have this problem at all, so it was only really a problem in the first hour or so of initial setup. having to use the stock remote would be very frustrating.
  19. sorry, yes I meant the 54S10 (not G10).
  20. when I saw the Samsung 58B550 in the store I was unimpressed with the PQ - feed was FTA HD over component. however I was confident in my purchase based on what I'd read on here and on avsforum. at home it's like night and day compared to in the store. even SD FTA looks better than HD FTA did in the store. Foxtel HD and bluray both look amazing. before updating, we had 55" at about 2.5m screen to eyes, and it was definitely not too close (for us). the thinner 58" sits a little further back than the RP LCD so the perspective is pretty much the same as before.
  21. not sure if you have considered it, but I asked on here not too long ago whether downgrading from 55" to 50" would be a decision I would regret, and the overwhelming response was to not downsize. I ended up going for a 58" Samsung and am very glad I didn't downsize. a 46" would be unimaginably small after a 55" edit: the Panasonic 54G10 54" plasma might be roughly in your price range.
  22. I think they screwed up the schedule initially. the only mention of it in the EPG last week was Monday 12:30pm (but it didn't say it was live). I looked again on Friday and both the qualifying and race sessions (Sat and Sun) were there and listed as being live.
  23. correct, looks like Harvey Norman is the best bricks and mortar store to get this model at the moment. that is until stock completely runs out.
  24. time to complain to Fox Sports then, since they told us last year that it would be in HD this year.
  25. Ten's rubbish commentary makes it a deal breaker for me. I'd rather watch the delayed feed on Fox Sports.
