  1. Thanks Baird. I've just ordered the 480 for $405 delivered.
  2. Diesel thanks so much for your reply. I'm the type of guy that would sacrifice quantity for quality and since this unit will be shared by me and 4 others, I'm warming to the idea of a larger capacity disk such as 500gb. So, looks like the DMR-XW480 is the one for me! I'm happy to hear other's opinions on the whole 380/480 option.
  3. Folks I can get a refurbished Panasonic DMR-XW480 for approx $400 or the DMR-XW380 for around $300. I recall reading something about the DMR-XW380 model doing something that the newer 385 does not? Can anyone please verify this and if the same thing applies to the DMR-XW480? I'm happy to take advice on weather I should proceed with the DMR-XW480 or DMR-XW380 (leaning towards the 500GB disk in the 480) or go with the newer 385. Muchas Gracias
  4. I think I'll take a leap of faith and buy one of these. Anyone seen or heard any more on these items sub $500? Cheers
  5. I'm tossing up between buying the dmr-xw380 or dmr-xw480. Can I ask: * do these devices play .avi (divx) directly of USB media? * how much are both of these units going for at the mo? My brother in law apparently purchased a dmr-xw480 for $500 from The Good Guys last month... Thanks
  6. Thanks. I'm wondering if anyone has tried it (perhaps a newer firmware allows playable divx over usb)?
  7. Mine is on it's way. Can anyone tell me if I can play DIVX avi files from USB on this unit? Otherwise I'm selling it.
  8. Hi all, Got the $900 from Kevin 07, would like to spend my half of it on a hard disk recorder. My 80gb SD, single tuner Wintel PVR died (can you believe it) and I've got a 50" Panny and have been looking at the Panasonic DMR-EX models (presumably the TV remote can be used to operate some of the Panasonic DVD/PVR features?) My criteriea are as follows (in no particular order): Must be able to play DIVX via USB (this is how I prefer to watch 90% of content) HDMI Could probably stretch to $600 Not concerned about getting the best quality recordings (at the moment we are still recording on VHS!) more concerned about simplicity. I like Panasonic mainly because it will give me another remote to operate TV with. Am I correct in assuming I can still record HD shows on an SD recorder (yes I read Pete's PVR Post). Muchos gracias.
  9. Anyone got some up to date pricing on the 52x model?
  10. I can't even tell you the brand, but it was $39.95, in a red and silver box, and the hard disk is a Seagate. Hope this helps. Anyone know when we can expect some firmware that supports long filenames on USB?
  11. You have the same setup as me exactly. I formatted my 80gb disk as a single partition using this tool called fat32format which allows you to get around the 32Gb limitation on Fat32. Mine works flawlessly - I've got about 50 divx movies on there plus all my favourite tv shows.
  12. Does anyone have any intelligence on best pricing for the 52" model? Everyone seems to be going for the 46!!
  13. I've got the 50PX600A and had no worries with my DVP5965K. Startup is a little slow, but worth it considering I've got all my DIVX files playing off an external HDD now. I only bought mine a month ago so unsure about the firmware. How can I check my firmware? Where are the updates?
  14. Has anyone tried the new 2.2 firmware? If so, what does it fix? How can I tell what version I have?
  15. The remote on my Supernet 160gb PVR died a few weeks ago. Trying to organise the seller on Ebay to send me a replacement (don't want to send the whole thing because it continues to record the shows I set it to using the timer function, plus I've got stuff on the HDD I don't want to lose).
  16. Do you think any of the problems with the LG may have been addressed in the 9 months since you bought yours?
  17. Jeebus! OK, I"ll avoid the LG, but what makes you think the Philips is any better? Thanks again.
  18. Really? Why's that? What's the street price on both the LG and the Philips?
  19. Can anyone tell me if the playback from USB works flawlessly? I've heard that there are problems playing back divx avi files on the cheaper USB/DIVX DVD players on eBay. Also what's a good street price for this item? Thanks.
  20. Does anyone have further intelligence on the best pricing on the 52" X Bravia?
  21. If anyone can post a receipt for the KDL52X2000 under $8k, I'd very much appreciate it. My sister's got her heart set on one and is willing to drop ten grand on it!!
  22. That's a good point - I've not tried it. I'm approaching 200 hours so I think it should be safe to start tweaking.
  23. Hey thanks guys. I think the splitter is the way to go. My TV is a new Panasonic PX600A with digital tuner. The TV has beautiful reception until I use the STB. I was using the scart to SVIDEO that came with the SuperNet from memory.
