Hey Baf05 - I'm also in our Nation's Capital and keen to hear of any hot pricing on the 50" model. I can almost certainly cajole a mate into buying one at the same time as me. I wonder if a bulk buy might help beat the current benchmark of $4300 inc 5 year warranty? My budget is approx $4k, so I might have to wait a while longer...

Apparently The Electrical Discounter will be selling the TH-50PX600A from 1 November for $4599.00 and the 5yr extended warranty for an additional $680.00. Thought they would do better than this. Is $4300 inc. 5yr w'ty still the best we've seen?

I was just chatting to a guy I know and he just bought a 50" PV60A with 2 years additional w'ty and delivery for about $3500 from Myer. He got 10% off for signing up with a store credit card, another 10% off because of their plasma sale, and they screwed up somehow and gave him another 10%!! Apparently the one Myer delivered was DOA! Myer replaced it with another one ASAP (took a couple days).

This has dropped yet again to $3889. I am transbugrified by these tumbling prices. Can't wait for the PX600's to hit the stores - they'll be giving them away by Christmas time!!

Looks like the flow-on affect has started since the announcement of the PX600 series on Panasonic Australia's web site. The Electrical Discounter has the TH50PV60A model for $4119. That's almost $100 cheaper than the previously lowest price I have seen. Check it out here.

Yes, you're right. It was up there for a minute or two - just enough to get my hopes up!! I do recall that the NEW 50" model had an RRP of $100 less than the current ($5999 Vs $5899).

I just read that the PX600 model will be arriving in Australia on 1 October. I just confirmed this on Panasonic Australia's web site. Also listed there is a $22,000, 65" model. Finally!!!

Hey Kenno - that fact that you too are in Canberra and that you're also hunting down a good 50" price interests me. $4200 is the best I've seen in this forum for the big-daddy. However, with footy finals and Christmas around the corner, plus the impending release of the PX600 model, one could only expect further price falls. Let us know how you get on.

While the 42" are dropping, the 50" model prices still seem comparatively stagnant.

For those of you who may be interested in the TH-50PX600 (50" with built in twin HD tuners) I received the following e-mail from Panasonic with regard to when it will be available in Australia: "Panasonic Australia does not have plans at this time for a 50inch Plasma with a built in Digital Tuner" Sounds like bullshit to me, given this model is one of the top rated TV's in Japan, USA and the UK. I even heard a rumour that it is/will soon be available in NZ!! Give me strength!!!

Thanks Anton. How does it compare to the Panasonic equivilant DVD player with HDMI (DVD-S52)? Can you operate it from your PV500A remote? Cheers

I realise there's probably a better thread to post this, but here goes. What's the best DVD player around the $200 mark that has HDMI out, DivX and can be made region-free? I'd like to use it with a 50" Panasonic Plasma which I plan to buy this year, but my old DVD player is dying much quicker than my old TV!!

That shits me! How much longer should we be forced wait?? I could open the digital television link on their site, but it only contained to LCD tvs.

For those of you who may not have seen this elsewhere, here's a link which contains some pictures and further info on the PX600 VIERA series. I for one can't wait for them to hit Aussie shores, and plan on buying a 50" if I can get one with w'ty for about $5k. I much prefer the black-on-silver design and the fact that it's got in-built twin high def tuners definitely appeals to me so I can wall-mount it and without the need for a STB or PVR to obtain a HD digital TV signal.
