  1. Far be it for me to suggest that an FS item is priced to high, but this looks like a typo to me. Maybe forgot to press the shift key?
  2. From memory, I used a laptop with RCA outputs and inputs, a Marantz AVR, the sub and one of those Radio Shack SPL meters. Connections were: Laptop --> AVR --> BFD --> Sub and SPL Meter --> Laptop. and Laptop --> BFD via midi. The meter (naturally) has a microphone, and you can download a specific calibration file for REW. The REW software supplies the sweeps for the measurements, and once I decided on a curve the PEQ parameters could be automatically sent to the BFD. Manually punching it in wouldn't take much longer - I've done that as well - and entering into the pre/pro wouldn't take much time either given it will have less than a handful of bands.
  3. I used a mic & REW (well, the microphone on the SPL meter) to do a sub, but that was also using a Behringer feedback destroyer as a parametric equaliser. Given the 7030's chipset (Cirrus Logic), I'd be guessing it will give you three parametric bands for the sub. It may be enough, but probably not in my experience. Depends on your room. For the other speakers, it will hopefully give you 10 or 11 bands for each speaker, which should be more than enough. REW with a calibrated microphone will be very useful, it isn't hard to get it going. You'll probably have to plug the numbers manually into the prepro because I doubt there's an interface available (BFD used to use MIDI, which was awesome. Not too many laptops with midi out these days though, and the BFD was also as noisy as all get out because it only had analogue IO but did all of the EQ in the digital domain. Good for subs and not much else).
  4. No money, when it's available we'll get an email asking whether we want it or not. It's been through a number of design revisions over that time, as you'd expect. There are a couple of things I'm not wild about - no phono input and only a single HDMI out - but nothing I can't live without. The hardware looks very very good, but that's only part of the story. Hopefully they'll get this one right, because the UMC-1 was a bit cluckfuster.
  5. For me, it's Marulan but I hate that place. YMMV :-)
  6. I'd definitely be interested but haven't got any plans (or time) to get to Canberra in the near future. I'll be going near there a couple of times in July, but with a car full of people. Of course, if you're planning a trip to Sydney...
  7. Some people have been waiting for 4 years - I've been on the preorder list for 3!
  8. Not just an employee, he's in charge of their marketing from what I can gather. DEFINITELY try to find some other reviews.
  9. True. I only mentioned it because the info on it has changed, and we should get a reasonable release date estimate in the next day or so. They've done a couple of things - one is hire a proper DSP professional, and they've also dropped the cirrus hardware for something with a decent toolkit. If it works, there's nothing in that price range that will go close, but it's a big if. It depends on the OP whether he cares to wait and see what happens. Alternatively, he may have precisely zero interest. He may also like to buy my Upgrade card, free with every purchase of a broken UMC-1 /plug Edit: ok, just noticed you're the OP. How embarrassment!
  10. If you have time, wait until Emo's XMC-1 hits the streets. Technically it looks brilliant, it all depends on whether they manage to staple the components together properly, no easy thing given how complicated these things are these days.
  11. Can't put anything past you, eh? Yes, Emotiva will transfer it for nothing - in fact, it isn't even a physical card, Emo keep a database entry for overseas holders.

  13. You can also stream from a PC as long it has been infected with the iTunes virus. Also, excellent stereo separation can be achieved by placing your face 6 inches from the front of the unit, but this sort of defeats the purpose. Uncomfortable, too.
  14. Hi All, I'm seeking expressions of interest in a broken Emotiva UMC-1 7.1 Channel Pre/Pro. The unit was zapped by lightning in 2010, and will no longer boot up. There's every chance it could be fixed with some board replacements or something, but at the time I couldn't be bothered and had it replaced by the insurance company. Since then, it's been sitting under a cabinet literally gathering dust. The price I'm looking for is $400, and I'm not negotiating at present. I don't have the original box, so it's pick-up only. It comes with two original remotes, one plastic (cheap and nasty) and the other metal (expensive and nasty, especially when used as a blunt instrument). Also a collection of slow fuses I bought to see if it would start up (it didn't). It also comes with a FREE Emotiva upgrade card. This card can be used to obtain a 40% discount on the new XMC-1 Pre-Processor, which will finally hit the market Real Soon Now. New details here http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/processors/products/xmc1, notice they've dropped the TacT room correction system for Dirac Live. I'm not sure if this is better or worse, but it should mean that the product is released this century. The XMC retails for USD 1500, which means that the upgrade card has a face value of USD 600 (about $630 at today's exchange rate). If the buyer cannot pick the UMC-1 up, I'd be more than happy to toss it in the bin for them. Note that the actual release date hasn't been announced yet although hopefully there will be some news shortly, which is why this item is EOI only at this point. Thank you for listening.
  15. Just FYI, COTD have these units cheap at the moment. I bought one some months ago (from the same place, for a little bit more) and it has been very good. Access is via our wireless network, if any of the Apple fiends who infest my house want to use it they just select it as an output device and play away. Very convenient (because you don't have to dock to use it, you don't even need to be near it!), and the sound is really good for the price and size of the unit. It even comes with some dicky white gloves to throw away. http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/22526/product/klipsch-gallery-g-17-airplay-speaker-system-96906 Disclaimer: not associated with anyone involved in making or selling these.

  19. Pretty much covered above, but: Rule 1: Turn off CEC in all devices. As some wag said, the problem isn't that it doesn't work, it's that it does. Rule 2: Change any video setting set to "Auto" to a specific value, if possible. Especially things like colour space, resolution etc. Do it in the player, the display unit and, if applicable, in the AVR. Search through ALL of the devices and change the Auto video settings. Make them all the same, it's unlikely you'll ever need to handle different ones. Rule 3: Turn the display unit on first. Wait until it's ready to start looking for an input source. Then turn on the AVR. Then the source. That should save most handshaking trouble up-front . If not, sometimes cycling through the inputs on the AVR can help.
