  1. Eh? They have HD on the middle tier and up. And GoT was not in 4K on HBO either (which is one of the reasons I suspect Binge is not going 4K just yet)... Still 50Hz for everything reflecting its Foxtel origins (and it lacks subtitles and an ability to set default surround audio), but it's not a bad product, particularly given there are several Foxtel channels buried away...
  2. Telstra customers can grab up to 12 months of Binge for free... https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/548891 (As for the audio on the Apple TV, make sure that you go to Video and Audio in settings, then ensure audio output is HDMI and audio format is Auto. Annoyingly, Binge makes you set Dolby Digital Every. Single. Time. Really annoying...)
  3. Just about to list a Magic TV MTV4000 1TB dual tuner HD PVR. More info on the model:
  4. Item: XBox One S 500GB and Play and Charge Kit Location: Melbourne Price: $200 Item Condition: Excellent. Note that it does not come with the XBox Minecraft games because I have redeemed the vouchers. Reason for selling: Upgrade to Oppo UDP-203 Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only (if posted, I will send the Play and Charge kit without the box. Extra Info: XBox One S 500GB model with one controller and genuine Play and Charge Kit. I bought this to play UHD discs but have subsequently upgraded to an Oppo UHD-203, and have an Apple TV for streaming. It comes with a serial for Minecraft on Windows, but I redeemed the XBox copy so the XBox DOES NOT come with Minecraft. Pictures:
  5. Item: Pioneer BDP-440 universal Blu-ray player Location: Melbourne Price: $125 Item Condition: Some light scratching on the top of the case, but playback is not affected. Does not come with composite video or stereo audio cable (I'll throw in an HDMI cable instead). Reason for selling: Upgrade to Oppo UDP-203 Payment Method: Pickup - Cash only due to bulk of item. Extra Info: Plays Blu-ray (including 3D), DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SA-CD, DVD and CD. Running hacked Chinese HDSir firmware, so it's region-free for DVD and region-selectable for Blu-ray. It is also apparently capable of playing FLAC, is Cinavia-free and can playback various ISOs (I cannot warrant these points because I haven't tried them). Pictures:
  6. Item: Audioengine A2 active computer speakers Location: Melbourne Price: $150 Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: No longer have a desktop computer so surplus to requirements Payment Method: Pickup - Cash only Extra Info: These speakers kept me in high quality tunes during my postgrad degree. They are excellent bang for the buck computer speakers. The new 'A2+' version retails for $379 in JB Hifi (these add USB playback, but otherwise appear to be identical - see https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/accessories/audioengine/audioengine-a2-desktop-speakers-black/473378/ ) Pictures:

  8. Panasonic has now published a patch for the stutter: http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/tv/download/fw/eu_2017/down_eu_uk_cis_03.html
  9. A partial fix for this popped up on AV Forums this morning. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LR32QXml4yuJFiG793jEgMzfB6kIfe-U/view It updates the version of the current firmware from 200a or 230a to 270b and removes the stutter for 25Hz and 50Hz material..
  10. Now $2195 at Bing Lee, or $2204 delivered at Appliance Central eBay (using P5OZZIE coupon)... https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/338309 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/338298 (65" is $3600.50 using P5OZZIE coupon at Appliance Central eBay.)
  11. OLEDs have a feature that no-one except LG's engineers seems to know how it works. It's called 'pixel refresh' on LGs (it used to be 'clear panel noise') and 'panel maintenance' on my Panasonic. They basically are designed to reduce the risk of burn in, but have the neat side effect of reducing the banding and vignetting on OLED panels. There are two cycles: one that runs after 4 hours of viewing automatically for 8-10 minutes, and one that is manually engaged and should be run for 60-80 minutes after 2000 hours. On my Panasonic, the light on the front turns orange when it's running. At any rate, it's why you shouldn't be sending back OLEDs straight away if you notice problems but should rather wait them out to see if the panel gets cleaned up over the course of a few cycles...
  12. Well, my Panasonic OLED's panel slowly appears to be coming good. It's now run up 40 hours, with 10 auto compensation cycles and 1 manual comp cycle complete. The vignetting in the corners, while still present, has faded notably (when I first started checking at 16 hours, the bottom left hand corner was so black that I didn't even realise there was '5%' showing on the greyscale slide I was using. The '5%' is now quite pronounced). There's still a light bar, a dark line, a swirl on the left hand side and a bit of vignetting in the bottom right corner, but on the whole, it's not too noticeable now.
  13. Have now listed on eBay for the bargain starting price of $675 (buy it now is $899).
  14. Currently using the Professional2 setting on default. Luminance is 30/100. Contrast is 90/100. Brightness is 0 on a -50/50 scale. With HDR, luminance shoots through the roof (although the banding is visible on grey content regardless of whether it's HDR). Anyway, it ran a compensation cycle tonight. The light band that's most noticeable seems to be softening...
  15. Re the banding, I did see it in a few darker near black scenes watching movies. However, staring at 5% greyscale slides all night is a recipe for obsessed madness so I won't worry too much until the panel has settled down a bit. If it's still bad at ~100 hours, then I'll get onto Panasonic... It's still better in other ways than my plasma (no buzz or fan noise for a start). It's just that (at this stage at least) the screen is not as uniform as the plasma was.
  16. Not too many reports of issues with the Panasonic (mainly because it's not sold in the US), but banding and/or vignetting is commonplace on the 65" models from LG. Many people are reporting it settles down after a few auto and/or manual compensation cycles though, so I'm going to get a couple of hundred hours up to see what it's like.
  17. I've noticed a fair amount of vignetting and banding on my new Panasonic 65" set including a fairly bright vertical band near the middle of the set. Compared to the VT60 plasma I was using previously, the uniformity is nowhere near as good. I'm running a manual 'panel maintenance' cycle (I think it's the equivalent of the compensation cycle on LGs) to see if this reduces the issue. I also think that just using it also helps...
  18. Why plug an aerial in to show real world performance when you can have HDR 4K demo loops slowly panning and showing the set off at its top potential? FTA in this country is so backward that no retailer would voluntarily use it to demo stuff, even in HD (and SD is revolting to look at now ). I watched a bit of the AFLW on my OLED the other night and thought my new Panasonic did a reasonable job of it with Intelligent Frame Creation set to minimum.
  19. Well, I've been digging the 4K content on Amazon and Hulu this morning. Haven't yet upgraded Netflix (just got billed sadly so will wait until I next feel like bingeing), and won't upgrade Stan until they have considerably more than 11 titles (see https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2588940&p=62#r1227 for the list). According to my XBox, I'm locking onto Ultra HD HDR on Amazon without issue (I have a non-NBN 50mbps wireless connection). Hulu's difficult to check.
  20. It was pretty much the last BNIB Panasonic Plasma purchased new in August 2014. It has ~3200 hours on the panel.
