  1. Hi everyone, Over the years we have accumulated several Panasonic and Pioneer plasma televisions. One has 15, yes, 15 hours on the panel (it's in storage); the highest is 54K hours. Only one set has been calibrated appropriately; the others are good, but likely not taking advantage of their full potential. If memory serves me correctly, the older sets had their brightness and contrast levels turned down many years ago when Panasonic announced the cessation of plasma sets. They have all been infallible and continue to soldier on; and hopefully will for decades! With this, do ageing plasmas need their display settings adjusted after a certain hourage? I'm aware of the initial burn-in period; all except one has well and truly surpassed that. I am tempted to ask for appropriate calibration settings, but I know that is a broad, person-specific topic, which differs from set to set, so I won't go there. However, what tools, resources, guides, and information do people use to calibrate their sets? I know it's more involved than turning the dials and ending up at a picture that looks alright. I should also point out that up until a few years ago I was still relatively young and didn't take too much notice of the picture displayed before me, hence the recent interest in sorting them out. If it is of any importance, the range of ages is from 2000 to 2014, with, of course, differing hours. on each unit. Further, I use FOXTEL's cable service through their iQ2 set-top-box; the two resolutions in use are 720p and 1080i (the iQ2 does not support 1080p), if that is of any help. Cheers
  2. Further information: Excellent TV, still rates as one of the best picture quality TVs pre-OLED for Full HD viewing. Perfect condition, with no marks, scratches, or issues - all ports working and fully functional. Comes with: - 2 x original Panasonic 3D glasses - Original remote - Google Chromecast to enable Smart TV functionality. Selling due to no longer being used due to having too many TV's in the house after upgrades. 3. Update: Price drop to $275 for quick sale. Also looking to sell entertainment unit for $175 (if bundled). Item: Pioneer Kuro PDP-508XDA 50 inch 720p plasma, with bottom mount speaker, stand, remote and in original box Location: Rushcutters Bay, NSW 2011 Price: UPDATED $275 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Too big for apartment / instructions from partner... Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Comes with original box for transport, original remote and manual. The TV has been sitting in storage for a few years. Only selling as it's too big for the apartment I've moved into (will replace with a 40-43 inch). The panel is in excellent conditions and has done under 10k hours. It's obviously 10 year old technology, but will hopefully suit someone, maybe as a second TV. Looking to sell quickly so open to reasonable offers Pictures:
  4. Item: Panasonic TH-P50V10A - 50 inch Full HD Plasma TV Location: Inner West, Sydney Price: SOLD Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Possibly upgrading, not enough space for two TV's Payment Method: Pickup - Cash. Too big/heavy to send via courier. Extra Info: This is the acclaimed V series from Panasonic. I have owned this unit since 2010 (first owner). It was used primarily for watching movies (blu-rays and dvd). The unit has been well looked after and in very good condition. The unit is made in Japan. Includes original remote, stand and box. TV is working 100% without any issues. No burn in either. Reluctant sale but I'm finally thinking of jumping for an OLED (gotta watch them cardoons). If I had the space I would keep this as a second TV but unfortunately I don't. 5. Item: Samsung PS64F8500 Plasma Location: Kellyville Price: $300 Item Condition: Used flagship Samsung Plasma. The display stopped working few months ago, heard a pop and there was no image. 6. Item: Pioneer 60" Kuro (LX608A) Plasma TV, including speakers & new mounting bracket (NO STAND) Location: Moorebank, Sydney Price: $350 Item Condition: Used, but excellent condition Reason for selling: went bigger Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Hi All, reluctantly selling my 60 inch Pioneer Kuro. 7. Item: Panasonic 65" Plasma Display TH-65VX100W Location: Len Wallis Audio HQ, 64 Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove NSW Price: $799 Item Condition: Excellent Payment Method: Cash, Credit Cards, PayPal Extra Info: First things, first - this is Full HD plasma display, not a television in the conventional sense. There is no built-in tuner and there are no speakers but don’t let that discourage you. What have here is Full HD 1080p plasma with exceptional picture quality and lots of settings to tweak. Think professional display monitor. Spend a little time getting the calibration dialed-in and it still looks absolutely stunning and satisfying to watch. To make it really shine you are going to want to connect it to a decent source like the 2nd hand Oppo BDP95 Blu-Ray Player ($599) we have it hooked up to in the showroom PLUS your AV Receiver/Speaker combo to manage sound. It’s a decent sized thing too and (very) solid, measuring 1,554mm wide, 924mm tall and 94mm deep. You can be wall mounted or use it with the desktop stand. With the stand it weights little over 70kgs. When new in 2010 they were $13,749 Ports & interfaces: Audio L/R in Component video (YPbPr/YCbCr) HDMI = 4 PC RGB = 1 RS-232 port - 1 Freight: Freight is not included in the price of this item and is POA. We are happy to ship anywhere in Australia but this is a heavy Item and we will need to get a price to transport to your location. Pictures:
  8. Item: Panasonic TH-P55VT60A Plasma Television Location: Richmond, Melbourne Price: $895 negotiable Item Condition: Excellent with all accessories and receipt, except for image retention in top right corner ('Live & Free' and the Fox Footy logo are visible on dark grey screens). ~3200 hours on panel. Has had the 'foam fix' to reduce fan noise. No box. Reason for selling: Upgraded to OLED Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Purchased new in August 2014. Strictly pick up only due to the TV's size and weight. Will sell to interstate residents but you will be responsible for arranging a courier and packing. Pictures:
  9. Item: Panasonic TH-P50ST50A 50" Plasma Location: Clayton, Melbourne Price: $900 pickup Item Condition: Great Reason for selling: Going bigger Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: The ST50 was the go-to TV for many people looking for the best picture quality on a budget in 2012, and continues to be recommended as a best buy into 2013. I bought this TV in January 2013 (this year) from Graysonline as a refurb unit - it's in perfect condition and has one month month of warranty remaining. It comes with the original box + all accessories. Pickup only at this stage due to the size and weight. Pics: Stock pic
  10. O.P. The tv suddenly developed vertical lines as shown on the attachment. It's a 6 years old Panasonic 40 inch plasma which is worth bugger all these days. This is the second time the fault happened. The first time was under warranty. The question is, is it worth getting it repaired? I reckon it's at least $120 just for the call in fee, plus labour and parts which will bring it to $250 easy. More if they have to replace the panel. I am also looking to downgrade to 32 inch as this one is too big for the bedroom. And 32 inch LCDs are only ~$500 these days. It's just sad and devastating if I decide to throw it out, considering I paid $3,000 back in the day. https://www.dropbox.com/s/yejaonw302d9zf5/20121223_182018.jpg

  13. Selling the plasma TV, great condition, I will give 3 months warranty. It has been on the wall, does not have the stand, other than that it has 2 x high end 3d glasses, manual, wifi dongle etc. I will also throw in a bluray 3d player and Avatar bluray as a bonus. $550 I am in Shepparton area.
  14. Hi, my Pioneer LX608 plasma no longer seems to be able to get to standby mode, let alone turn on the screen. Could this be a capacitor problem? Any good recommendations for repair in Melbourne east? The tv is out of warranty, and since Pioneer closed shop I've no idea where to look. Cheers.
  15. HI, if anyone decided to jump to the new latest and greatest 4k , HDR sets, maybe are ready to sell their older sets. I am in the market for a second telly minimum 55 inch to 65 inch VT60 or F8500. Prepared to pay good dollar for a great condition set.
  16. Hi All, Am looking for a new screen to replace the old (but very good) Hitachi 42" Plasma. It has a big red line running top to bottom down the right hand side! We have a Samsung 42" LCD in our bedroom and it is very good, and connected immediately to our Western Digital Wireless HDD, allowing us to playing movies directly from it. As I watch a lot of sport, I was simply going to look for a 55-60" LCD with 200Hz (as I can see a tail on the ball on the 100Hz LCD we have), and it was probably going to be a Samsung, as I have had only good experiences getting ours and a few for other family members. I have just read people's views on the Samsung PN64F8500, and am still struggling in my head that Plasma's are "old school". I guess they are not. As I narrow my search, I would interested in people's opinions on what is around now (in the sales) at the $2,000 to $3,500 range, at about the 60" size (4m+ viewing distance), and that would have wi-fi capability to connect onto the home network. Thanks in advance for your helpful advice, tips, and debate....once again! Nathan
  17. Hi all, I have the opportunity to purchase a 4 month old 65" VT60. Asking price is $2500 - won't budge. Given the increasing scarcity of these do you think the price is reasonable? Cheers.

  21. Hi all, Unfortunately I just had a TV die and want to buy a 50" plasma to replace it. It will be used mainly for HTPC / blu-ray, in a fairly bright room. There is hardly any stock around but I've sourced these prices: 51D6900 $970 (HN) - Looks better (colour, bezel etc) - 1" extra - More featured (but I don't care) 50ST30 $970 (HN) - Better light filtering - Possibly better panel (colour reproduction, blacks etc) - Possibly better warranty service To be honest it's really the better looks of the Sammy vs the better Light filter/blacks of the Panny. I'm leaning toward the Pana as a safer option, but i really like the D6900's looks. Anyone want to convince me either way? Thanks! EDIT: sorry for the double post

  23. panasonic th-p42g10a. turned it on this morning, shut off automatically after 15 seconds. the red power led blinks 6 times in a cycle and then repeats. turned tv off at button. turned it back on, now the output is all pink, same on hdmi output. anyone know what this is? i can't find the service manual anywhere?
  24. Further information: It pains me to get rid of this - its been a stellar TV since purchased new from GoodGuys Essendon DFO in Sep 2009. But I just don't have room for it any more. All it needs is a Chromecast and its a smart TV. Unfortunately this is pick up only (47Kg) and should be transported in an upright position. Sorry I have no boxes but its last move wrapped in blankets went without incident. Comes with manual and remote. Photos:
  25. Further information: 1080p, 58” Plasma Television. Kept in excellent condition, with original remote, documents & box! There isn’t a better kept TV of this age around. Stand hardly used - TV was wall mounted for the majority of the time. Photos:
