  1. Very interested! Please supply me a quote to courier to eastern Vic Churchill 3842 (160 km east of Melbourne). To make it simpler, quite happy to collect them from the Melbourne depot of the courier (if they have one). Will likely make an offer after I hear back.
  2. I'm in eastern Vic 160 km east of Melbourne so I'm looking for speakers not too far away. NS-777's would be great but haven't been to Sydney since they built the bridge LOL.
  3. Much appreciate the feedback! Still wading thru adverts for speakers - not sure about spending $800 on the NS-555 speakers. Luckily not in a hurry.
  4. My old floor standing speakers have died. Need to buy a new pair. My old Yamaha receiver RX-V596 has an inpedance selector but only 4 or 8 ohm. Would connecting the 6 ohm Yamaha NS-555 speakers be OK (very keen on them). Am in a small unit - need a reasonable level of volume.Yamaha Tech Advice have never returned my call. Any advice appreciated.
  5. Item: DVD-A demo/sampler music disc Price Range: under $20 including shipping Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: Although I have 2 SACD players, one is universal, but have never had the chance to test whether the DVD-A playback is actually working. I'm looking for a cheap multi-channel music demo/sampler disc purely to give the player a one-off test. Like SACD's, I've discovered almost all DVD-A discs online are quite pricey, and none of the stores in my area sell any. This is just for a one-off test, so don't want to spend big bucks (as I intend to stick with SACD's for my music). . Please don't forget to report your post as FOUND when possible. (You can now delete this text).
  6. Thanks guys for your feedback. Despite the major problems with my Magic, most of the programs recorded up until mid-Feb played back OK (go figure), so I watched all of them before it was too late. Some from last year I wanted to keep, so I recorded them direct to DVD using my ancient Sony recorder. So when I returned my Magic yesterday I had no worries about what was still on the HDD. ***EDIT 4th March***: My original remote for the MTV3700TD that was being given away free has now been accepted by a fellow member. As mentioned in my previous post, the Topfield came with a miserable 14 page User Manual. I didn't feel comfortable undertaking an installation last night using such simplistic info, so I gave it a miss. I've now downloaded a proper 66 page Guide, so will make another attempt later this morning. I can feel Magic withdrawal pains already setting in LOL. Thanks for the link "referee" - I don't really understand TAPS at this point in time, but will read it at my leisure and see how I go. There is also a thread elsewhere on this Forum called "Topfield 7260 Any Good?", so will probably post there from now on.
  7. On thinking it over since my earlier post this morning I decided it was best to resolve the situation as soon as possible due to my going away on holidays very soon. The frustration was really getting to me:(. I phoned Harvey Norman Product Care - very helpful. Took my details and emailed me a "Conditional Approval Confirmation" to enable me to receive an in-store credit for $248 (the price I paid for the Magic almost 3 years ago). I took the Magic and the printed email into my local Harvey Norman - the same store from whom I purchased the Magic. The Manager did some more paperwork - no fuss - again very helpul - even made me a coffee! He said it was up to me to decide what to take. The store didn't have a big range of PVR's, and I didn't want to spend much at all, so I spent some unhurried time looking at their small selection. I just want something to reliably record programs as the Magic once did.. I decided to pay $48, which together with my credit, enabled me to bring home a Topfield TRF-7260 Plus (500 GB HDD, quad recording, series record, advert skipping, wifi dongle). Price on box $339. I've only opened the box and checked the contents so far - will install it later tonight. It has the smallest User Manual I've ever seen - just 14 pages. Local support is a bonus for a change. I'll miss my Magic - it was fantastic (up until it stopped functioning) and I certainly appreciate all the advice & info I've received through this thread over the past 3 years. So thenk you everyone! But today was decision day - it was time to put the past behind me and move on. If this Topfield lasts 3 years, I'll be more than happy. Cheers:)
  8. Thank you mwd:) Again still no channels can be found doing a rescan, so I now suspect the problem is definitely a dead tuner. I bought my Magic on 19th April 2012 - the price included "60 months Product Care" from Harvey Norman, so my warranty theoretically is valid until April 2017. On checking the extended warranty, I notice that only "minor faults" are covered (not a "major failure").Hmmm. The Product Care plan comes with phone technical assistance - I'll phone later today. However, as PixelMagic no longer exists, I doubt I will get anywhere making a claim. On Wednesday I will take the Magic back to my local Harvey Norman where I bought it and see what reaction I get. If no success with them, I might be tempted to take the matter further under Australian Consumer Law. A product like this RRP $699 should last more than 3 years. If I could simply get it repaired somehow somewhere, that would be fine.
  9. I switched the Magic back on around 10.30am today. On my TV screen I got "Welcome to Guided Setup". So I did the setup and the scan. Result: "Channels found:0" and "no channel available". The front panel of the Magic at present just has "Magic TV".Tried this afew times to no effect. It may be Seniors Moment, but I'm sure the power supply adaptor used to have a red indicator light. At present there is just a tiny rectangular pale green light showing. I tried re-booting a few times using the rocker switch, but no matter how many times I do a scan, there are no channels to be found. Last night I had to watch my TV direct with the Magic disconnected. It's unusable at present - not sure what to try next:(
  10. Thanks wklie for the suggestions. Before I go any further, will a Factory Reset erase all my HD recordings? At the moment, c.7.55 pm Saturday night, the Magic is totally non-functional with or without remote. No matter what I try - on/off, rescan, etc. Not recording at all. Front panel not lit up at all. On screen alerts so far " no time", "check antenna/aerial" as before, "no channel available"
  11. Thought I'd try a few more ideas before reporting back. First I should point out I bought the Magic in April 2012 and I've never ever used the loop before. It doesn't work using the Magic Remote as I then can't change channels. Using the TV remote with Loop. I get black screen with "No Service". I noticed that my Freeview timer recordings were all there - nightly news - so checked them. All OK. Under the assumption the Magic was recording programmes OK, I decided the HDMI cable connecting the Magic & my TV could be at fault. I switched it with the Blu Ray cable. Much better - no "anntenna" on screen message.. So, tonight, it all ***seems*** to be working OK again. The remote is VERY slow to change channels. Battery checker indicates they're OK, but have inserted new ones tonight. Remote still very slow after fresh batteries. Freeview EPG - the large on-screen one - doesn't work on Prime7, and takes multiple presses to appear on other channels, if at all. So, at the moment, not sure if my Magic is suffering from old age, or needs a new power supply (where do I get one?), or the IC ASL033 is faulty (not sure what that means or what to do). I'll see how it all goes over the next few days, and whether the problems re-occur. Much appreciate the advice so far:)
  12. I've been trying the loop for the past hour. However, the main result is that the remote is no longer effective - I can't change channels using it. I'm on ABC1 at present, and it's "locked". So for me using the loop is not really a solution. Guess maybe it's the power supply
  13. I'll google a bit to see if there are any posts about the Magic power supply failing. As for the loop, my Magic Owners Guide page 20 states the Antenna Loopthrough is only used if one wants to retain analogue TV reception. The area I live in has been totally digital for several years.
  14. For the past few weeks in the evenings, I haven't been able to watch programs much at all via my Magic. The picture almost continually breaks up on all channels, screen goes black, picture freezes, screeching sounds, etc. On screen I then almost constantly get the error message "No Signal - please check aerial/antenna cable". There have been quite few storms recently in the area - rain, thunder, etc - and some very hot days. I have plugged the same antenna cable directly into my TV, and reception is perfect. I haven't gone back yet over the previous 1800+ posts to see if anyone might have had similar problems in the past. The HDD is only about 5% full and the remote wotks perfectly. The front panel problem reported previously has fixed itself. I'm in a complex of 18 units served by a large tall tower antenna. A neighbour has just told me that it was decommissioned a few weeks ago, and replaced by a tiny basic antenna on one of the nearby units. I thought this might be the cause of the problem, but as I mentioned above, I get perfect reception on all channels when the antenna cable is plugged directly into the TV. I'm think my Magic could be dying:(
  15. Looks like I spoke too soon. My Magic has reverted to its problematic behaviour - a usually darkened front panel display. It's set to record the 6 pm News every day. As soon as it starts up at 5.45 all that can be seen on the front panel display is the HDD space meter showing FULL. I've already checked, and my hard drive is only about 10% full. The front panel displays other odd things now and again but there appears to be no negative effect yet on its operation. So, for the moment, everything is working fine - it records, it plays back, the remote is OK. Guess I just have to cross my fingers and wait and see if the unit goes belly up or not down the track:(.
  16. Thanks wklie for the info. Yes - I should have mentioned the remote works fine. A dying front panel - I suppose I shouldn't complain if that's all it is . *****Just after I typed the above*****, I glanced over at the Magic and the display is now suddenly working! #%$?"#@! Day, date, time all correct & scheduled recording indicator OK. Why would the display suddenly work again after almost a week? I'd better cross my fingers and hope it doesn't malfunction again:(
  17. Last week (while I was out all day) the power in my street was turned off. That evening after I returned home I noticed the front panel display was behaving erratically - turning on and off randomly. When it stayed on, there were strange unreadable "letters". I turned it on and off at the rear a few times, and did a few rescans, but the strange behaviour remains. Most of the time the display is dark- nothing to be seen at all. The good news - so far - is that the unit appears to be fully functional. It records and plays back programmes perfectly as it has done for the past 2 years. The EPG is OK - series record OK. Time is correct. All channels OK. Anyone any idea what the problem could be - or is my Magic finally about to die?
  18. An almost full-page ad appeared in last nights local paper advising all residents of my town and others nearby to retune on 25th March. I'll wait until then to see if there's any improvement. My feed is from a 50 metre high community antenna which I cannot adjust.
  19. The problem is ONLY with the 7 Network, so I doubt the cabling or antenna socket is the cause - otherwise I'd have no channels. The nearby Morwell coal mine fire is still still burning, so I'll wait until that is put out before attempting anything more. Thanks anyway wklie.
  20. For about 6 weeks now,I have had problems watching 7 Network channels - blocky picture but 95% of the time the on-screen message "poor signal - please check aerial/antenna cable". I've just done a few auto rescans and now none of the 7 Network channels appear - no Seven, Seven2, 7Mate. All other networks and channels are OK. There have been recent major bushfires in my area, and the Latrobe Valley open cut is still burning with bad smoke haze still hanging over Morwell Vic. But the problems I'm experiencing started occurring before the fires. I've checked the antenna with my 15" LCD LED Tv I take on holidays, and 7 Newtwork is OK. Has anyone any idea what could be causing the problem?
  21. I was simply replying to your blanket statement that one "can't transfer recordings off the device".Your statement was totally incorrect, which you have now admitted in your reply.
  22. I've had my my Magic almost 2 years now and it's still going strong apart from recent Prime7 Network reception issues. I love the MTV3700 series record option which I use regularly. Ad-skipping is not a priority for me - each to their own. Despite a comment posted previously, on my Magic I have NEVER had any problems transferring recordings off my Magic direct to my Sony DVD recorder.........
  23. I purchased my MTV3700 for $248 from my local Harvey Norman just over a year ago (dongle included). The DealSpace website has it for $649! Hopefully these units will become readily available again one day in Aussie stores.
  24. i'm recording weekly episodes of dexter and nurse jackie on channel 11 - tens digital channel. info is displayed on already recorded episodes - date, time, channel and a short synopsis. i have always used the freeview epg and software - the epg shows same info. hope this might help. the "no episode" screen message i have seen , but only for series record when the show has ended - e.g. doc martin and downton abbey. it's great to see software support still exists for the magic - i hope one day this Pvr becomes once more available. ps. sorry for messy post. this site and my samsung android tablet are not really compatible
  25. Thanks for posting this wklie. If it's "riskier" then I'll wait for an officail releas, because at the moment my MTV3700TD is working perfectly again with the replacement remote.
