help with sonos zp120

Featured Replies

Hi anyone who can help: (please)

I have bought a Sonos ZP120 - that's all I have. No controller screen thing.

I want to use it>

What do I do?

I've connected it to my router using an ethernet cable.

Now what?

I have an ipad.

Regards

Trev

I'm assuming you have music stored on NAS or a computer hard drive and it is on your wifi network?

You need to download Sonos desk top controller on your computer.

It will prompt you with fairly straight forward instructions on set up.

Go to the App Store on your IPad and download "Sonos controller"- again, it will prompt you.

I have recently set up my Sonos and it was straightforward

What Ted said - except that I'd also recommend downloading controller software to any/all computers in the vicinity. They will all work seamlessly with each other and you can use whichever is nearest at the time to control the Sonos.

Another reason I'm suggesting this is that I prefer using the standard computer interface with a mouse to the iPad touchscreen app - but that might be "just me"

Just to confirm: the Sonos ZP120 has to be physically linked to a router via an ethernet cable? Not wifi ?

Much appreciated!

Hi Trev. ONE Sonos component (can be a zoneplayer or zonebridge) has to be linked via ethernet to the router. As you've only got one (so far), then that's gotta be it.

Correct, and as Tony M has said. Basically Sonos runs it's own proprietary network, called Sonos Mesh. It is not directly compatible with anything else, hence the need to hard wire a minimum of one Sonos component to your own wireless (or wired) network.

Yes, but if you get a Bridge (I think $80) to connect to your router, you can run you ZP120 wirelessly. In other words the ZP120 connected to your speakers and no ethernet connection to the ZP120. Provides a very neat solution.
