HALCRO MC30

Purchased new in mid 2015 from Magenta Audio who have confirmed the balance of the 5 year warranty is transferable. Three totally independent channels each with 400W RMS into 4 ohms, so can use just two channels for stereo and have the third for a centre channel, an unpowered subwoofer or just keep unused as a spare. RRP was $7000 and Magenta is currently selling one on eBay for about half that. Comes with original double box packaging, manual etc.

Excellent reviews for the 2, 3 ,5 and 7 channel amps (see also SNA forums):

Looks good, that's for sure.

Good luck :)

I have the Halcro price lists here somewhere...from memory the MC30 was north of the number you mentioned.

Thanks for both comments. I think it is a pretty good price regardless but I need to make some space.

Does your CD have a pre-section? Just wondering what sort of pre-amp would be the next level of expense to sit alongside this power amp ?

My CD player doesn't have a preamp section and I have tried many dedicated preamps with both the Halcro and a Metaxas M3 and so far prefer my vintage Yamaha C70 pre which was less than $1k. Mostly my experience is that a separate preamp and a specialist CD player makes a huge difference, eg using my Oppo95 with its volume control was not good enough but a Modright version as advertised in SNA or a Krell or QUAD might be. There are some preamp bargains on SNA from time to time too at around $1k.

As I suspected. The Halcro MC30 recommended retail was $8,789. I have the manufacturer price list in-front of me here...so this example represents a very good buy.

Yes it is a good buy.

My mc20 (2 challenge version) with my Arc valve pre did well with my Duntechs. Alot of amp for the money in my opinion.

Now sold. I donated $50 to SNA last year in anticipation of a sale.
