The Sound of Sim Speed as Prodrive and Bang & Olufsen Team Up

Prodrive’s sculptural racing simulator combines motorsport heritage, British craftsmanship, and Bang & Olufsen’s Beoplay HX and H100 headphones.

Prodrive, the motorsport engineering icon, has turned its attention to the living room with this striking creation — a sculptural racing simulator that marries heritage with design. Bang & Olufsen provides the soundtrack, with Beoplay HX headphones supplied as standard and the new Beoplay H100 available as an upgrade.

Prodrive, founded in 1984 and best known for its rally and GT racing exploits, has long been one of Britain’s most influential engineering outfits. Its new simulator translates that motorsport heritage into a centrepiece designed for the modern home. Conceived by Prodrive chairman David Richards and envisioned by designer Ian Callum, it has been brought to life with the help of revered British artisans. The result is a piece of furniture that functions as both an immersive simulator and a sculptural statement.

The cockpit is enclosed by a sweeping “Beech Hoop”, a lacquered, steam-formed timber arc created by superyacht builder Pendennis. Inside, Connolly leather — familiar to generations of luxury car owners — is used for bespoke trimming, with options for colour palettes, contrast stitching, and even embossed crests.

The floating carbon fibre monocoque beneath recalls the cocoon of a modern racing car, housing an adjustable pedal box, Precision Sim Engineering LM Pro steering wheel, and 49-inch 5K curved display powered by a bespoke computer system. Each commission is finished with a discreet numbered plaque from Vaughtons, the historic Birmingham firm responsible for some of the most recognisable automotive badging in history.

Bang & Olufsen provides the audio, with Beoplay HX headphones included, and the new Beoplay H100 offered as an upgrade. The H100 is the brand’s latest flagship, featuring titanium drivers, Dolby Atmos head-tracking, and a modular, repair-friendly design. An optional Beosound A9 loudspeaker can also be specified for those wanting a shared listening experience beyond the cockpit.

Beneath the artistry lies reasonable but not uncompromising hardware. The simulator runs on a custom PC equipped with NVIDIA RTX graphics and pre-installed with Assetto Corsa software. A Simucube 2 PRO direct-drive steering motor and electrically adjustable pedal box provide a level of authenticity, while the Cobra Nogaro Street seat strikes a balance between support and comfort. Prodrive even offers virtual coaching with professional drivers. Yet, purists will note the absence of motion actuators, rumble packs or detailed brake actuators — reminders that this is less a hardcore training rig and more an elevated statement piece.

Commissioning is handled via a concierge service, with extensive customisation options ensuring no two builds are alike. From trim to colour, every detail can be aligned with a client’s collection or interior design. Installation is simple — a single power cable maintains the clean silhouette and sculptural presence.

What Prodrive is offering is more than a simulator. It is a work of design that happens to deliver an immersive racing experience, intended as much for display as for competition practice. While Prodrive does not publish an official list price, reports suggest the walk-up cost sits in the vicinity of £50,000 | AU$101,000 with bespoke commissions and upgrades likely pushing the total far higher.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
