Hi there, 

 

As the title says... I am looking for a portable headphone amp/dac (usb powered) to pair with my AKG k712 pros. 

Something a little warm up top with a boosted low end to fill out the AKG k712 sound profile. 

 

I would like to mention I like things a little warmer than most modern Sabre DAC usb//amp/dacs on the market... 

I.e dragonfly, geekout.. 

 

In fact I haven't heard a decent DAC with a Sabre chip yet!  ;)

 

I like CS4398/97.... NOS DACs.... etc 

I was considering the soundblaster e5, Asus u7 as they run the CS4398 DAC chip.

 

Open to opinions... Cheers

I know you mentioned you didn't like sabre, but have you tried the Resonessence Herus or Herus+?

They are warmer than the classic sabre sound, It is worth a listen if you get a chance, we have one at the melbourne store you would be welcome to come and try!
