catman Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 G'day all, I guess that we've all either experienced or know about some unfortunate incident involving audio gear or something else where something went wrong at the crucial moment resulting in disaster! Yes it's happened to me too and I always attribute that to 'Murphy'. Given the basic definition of 'Murphy' (the worst possible....at the worst possible time etc), I really wonder if 'Murphy' is real or is it just 'bad luck'? Or are things never destined to go smoothly! Mmmmm. Regards, Felix.
BradC Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 It's just probabilities. There are many more ways for things to go wrong than to go right
Green Wagon Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Poo does happen. About to finish a long sansui resurrection, first power up this morning, 45v dc one output. DOH. Didn't know about the fault before I started (neither did the owner), had to do the resto first for safety. So now I have to replace outputs, drivers, bias resistors, and probably more. I'll find out tmrw. Then once its going I'll have to clean the whole board. Again. So yes, murphy does exist, as does the snaffle monster. (ask any car audio installer / auto elec)

MusicOne Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Oh yes, Murphy exists alright....I have the battle scars to prove it.
Green Wagon Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 What Sansui? Cheers John An A-60. Been in storage under a house for a year I was told. Veeeeeeeery dirty, full of dead cockies and webbings etc.. Its been worked on somewhere in the past. A few caps had been changed, one set of outputs, and a board repair for a crack across three tracks (face edge of heatsink). I suspect because of the silly way the output sockets are grouped someone wired up L+R speakers to one channel. It now has, all new caps, bias pots, power cord, cleaned boards and chassis (what little there is of it), fully resoldered, new 5 way speaker posts. And I just ordered new outputs (1104/2579) and bias resistors. Outputs (one channel) were shorted and the resistors were open. I do love the old simple amps....... 1
nofixedaddress Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I go with Murphys Law as I like to remember it If it can go wrong - it will! So I spend a lot of time making sure things cannot go wrong...........and then they do........... NFA
betty boop Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 someoen once told me theres no such thing as bad luck…things don't just happen….you make your own luck and all that….heartless BS ! yeah a lot more goes right than wrong…but if the other way around …things not going well for you obviously hehe
