Chilled or not to be Chilled?

Featured Replies

I'n not a wine drinker, but am having a funeral here tomorrow and I have some Reds and some whites - non sparkly stuff, do I need to chill the wine ?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

For the reds it depends on the ambient temp at your place Grumpy. If it is only 20° then it's fine, but if it was a stinker of a day I would whack it in the fridge for an hour or so before opening. The whole non-chilled thing stems from parts of Euro world where they enjoy a cooler temp range.

Whites should be chilled regardless.

don't leave the reds in the sun, and they will be fine without being in a fridge.  Room temperature is okay with the current weather.

put the white wine in the fridge about 3 hours beforehand.  They don't need to be nearly-frozen, just cold.  Not as cold as you would do a beer.

I am assuming the function is indoors.  if outdoors, keep the wine somewhere in the shade.

Whites should be chilled regardless.

But not too chilled otherwise you kill the flavor. A couple of hours in the fridge or a short while in an ice bucket will do fine.
