Cans vs bottles (beer)

Featured Replies

The Tap Kings are plastic aren't they?

Bloke down the road had one a while back he'd been given for his birthday or something.

Comes with a special glass you're supposed to chill before pouring

He clearly didn't have the pouring technique down pat as it was 80% head when he brought it out ..

Why would anyone spray beer under their arms?

  • When I'm on the road in our caravan, I buy my beer in cans if I can (some beers I like don't come in cans).  But I don't drink them out of cans, I "decant" them into a glass.  Beer out of a can is NOT

Oi! I'm looking for your speaker build thread.

Haven't cast my eyes over it for a while, where is it???

Well....

It still doesn't have the same fullness as the stubbie does.

But I seem to be drinking it a lot faster.

I'll get a carton of stubbies while I still have some cans left and will do the decanted blind test.

At this point however, drinking straight from the stubbie wins over drinking straight from the can, or can decanted in to glass.

Have the James Boags tap king in the fridge, been there for about 6 months.  heard good things, really good actually, but haven't tapped one yet.  A price comparison though it's more exxey than a slab of stubbies of the same drop.

Beer does not improve with age unlike wine. Drink the bloody thing!

This thread is making me thirsty!

I never buy beer that is sold in clear glass bottles. That is just throwing your money away. Beer has been sold in brown and green glass bottles for ever and for a reason. It stops light getting to the beer which rapidly destroys it and reduces it's already short shelf life. Of course cans completely stop light penetrating so the shelf life is naturally longer than glass.

There is an old saying the best beer is the one in your hand.

Beer does not improve with age unlike wine. Drink the bloody thing!

Proper beer does

Coopers ages in the stubbie, that's what I like about it.

The label says "best after" instead of "best before" like most beers.

Proper beer does

Most people in Australia drink Lager. Lager generally has a shelf life of less than 6 months and if exposed to heat and light far less. Beers like Guinness and Coopers Sparkling Ale obviously are exceptions to the rule. Guinness is high in Alcohol content and the Coopers Ale is cloudy as a consequence of the yeast which it retains during the brewing process. I rather like Coopers myself however these type of beers are only a tiny niche in the Aussie beer market. For better or worse Lager dominates , so drink it as soon as you buy it.
