  • Rollmops? Only at Oktoberfests in my youth before going on the "Big dipper"  "Look out below!!"

No it was definitely a Dutch food site.

I remember being surprised at seeing them there.

Anyway I'm sure a quick Google search will lead you to them.

I get my parents to send me a few bags every now and again along with other salty treats :)

Whereabouts in Holland are you from?

I spent a bit of time in a little place called Boskoop (near Alphen A/D Rijn (sp?) ) many years ago and also been visiting Alkmaar/Heiloo a number of times as my girlfriend's aunty lives there.

And plenty of trips to Amsterdam and Rotterdam of course :)

ok, fair enough.

Another good online shop is dutchfood.com.au , I had a look , but nothing.

Did you enjoy your time in the Netherlands?

I always enjoy hearing how other people view the Netherlands.

I lived in sittard, close to Maastricht.

All very very south , so south that we even got our own language..

Yeah I love Holland.

Such a diverse place.

The old and quaint mixed with the modern architecture, water and bikes everywhere, farmland, greenhouses all squeezed in to this tiny country.

People are very friendly too for the most part.

And all the food, of course.

:)

I went to a local dutch shop.

Guess what i found.......

Are we all scoffing rollmops for Konigsdag today, or will no-one be around to read this cos you're all down the local Dutch club for a knees-up?

Mmmm mmmm :D

I got some of those from Coles but haven't tried them yet.

I used to eat some other brands but they became hard to get.

I was getting some lumpfish roe for my boiled eggs and spotted them.

I'm sure years ago they use to have a slice of gherkin in the of them, these days it's only onion.

Can anyone else remember the gherkin?

Yeah..........was gherkin and onion.
Sometimes you'd get a bonus red pepper!

I knew it! They were heaps better.

My apologies. Wikipedia tells me that it's celebrated on the Saturday (i.e. today) if the 27th falls on a Sunday.

Pretty sure it was happening today in WA, as a mate told me he was off in search of lager and bitterballen.

I don't know much about what other states do, but I'm interested to find out more.

One thing is funny, we are time wise ahead of the Netherlands and are always first in line.

But in this case the dutch are celebrating before us...
