Long covid and drinking

Featured Replies

Evening all

Thought I would ask some of the more seasoned drinkers (!) for advice about changes I have noticed post covid (although that may not be the cause but it doesn't really matter).

Anyhoo from minor to major:

  1. beer seems largely unaffected

  2. coffee and tea become somewhat unpalatable if not hot (I mean the sort of first sip hot)

  3. spirits eg gin and tonic or scotch and coke just don't taste cold enough even with everything chilled

  4. this is the big one - red wine (90% of my drinking) can just taste too syrupy, almost sweet like port.

Shiraz of any quality I can barely drink and any pronounced oak is intolerable.

So not looking for medical type solutions but mainly red wine suggestions that I presume might be called extra dry.

Sorry for raving on but I'm talking low

$20 max for a bottle and to give you an idea:

  1. Brokenwood cricket pitch is an old favourite and still tastes great

  2. Wirra Wirra churchblock is an old favourite and doesn't now taste so great

  3. Maretti Langhe Rosso is a new favourite I could drink all day

If you have read this far thanks and any suggestions appreciated.

And btw its not just sweetness as I can still chomp on a mars bar or sickly doughnut.

Cheers, fOtR
