Can I connect headphone amp to pre amp?

Featured Replies

Hi. My pre amp doesn't have a headphone socket and I was wondering if it's possible to connect a headphone amp to the line out of my pre amp?

It seems logical but then it could also be a really stupid idea so I'd appreciate your educated opinions. Pre amp in question is an Audio Note M1 line which has 2 outs. One is currently connected to power amps.

Hi Mark, wouldn't it depend on the headphone amp? If it's able to take a pre-amp in (same as the power amp), then it should be fine.

But...we'd need to know the headphone amp in question. And that's a weird looking preamp - where does the input come from? And it says "phono" under the power cable...maybe Mark is right?

My fault, I misread the question. Yes, of course. You can add a headphone amp to a preamp. I take back what I wrote. At an earlier post

Except - that might only be a phono pre-amp, with no volume control. Could be a bit dangerous for the ears...

Thanks for replies. I actually found my answer before the post was approved and asked for it to be taken down. If nothing else it might help others. The preamp is a regular preamp, it just has the inputs on the side for some reason. The outputs are variable and so the signal will be passing through two volume controls which supposedly degrades the signal. I decided it's easier to just disconnect dac from the preamp and connect to HP amp when needed.
