There is a pristine pair of JBL 4344s here in Hong Kong priced at $29,500 HKD ($3.8k). I’ve auditioned them multiple times with my own setup and it sounds absolutely delightful in every way possible, except for the highs being slightly too bright (still in acceptable range). The 2235h is a very nice woofer indeed.

 

here’s the problem: is the price fair? The version that he’s selling is the later 1983 version with full ferrite units (2405H instead of 2405 super tweeter, 2425J instead of 2421B compression driver). All units are original and in good condition, I have checked the diaphragm and they look fine. 
 

will that affect the value? I understand that the value of ferrite magnet units will be lower than the preferred alnico (I personally prefer the ferrite sound but that’s just me), however based off completed sales I do notice the Alnico drivers are almost 1.5x more.

 

is the $3.8k price still fair? Or am I paying too much?

There was a really good pair listed for sale few months back here in Melbourne, Australia. And it got sold super quick. I got a bit late to contact the seller. Offered him more but he wanted to go in the order of people who approached first ☹️.

I see, if I recall correctly 4344 is rarer than the 4343 (somewhat close to 4345 in rarity?) and mostly made in japan. Very popular here in hong kong atleast.

Would you say the price is fair for my copy? all units original as I said, forgot to take pics but i've seen it with my own eyes which is the best reassurance. The woofer edges are soft and cone seems original.
