Okay, I have a real issue with this system.  The game cards don't contain the game, only a key to download the game to your console.  I know there's plenty of people who don't mind digital only copies, but plenty are like me and want to own the physical copy.  I'm in a real bind about this now.  I might just have to muse over it a little more.

its way things are going unfortunately ...

yep all is digital in cloud now... if buy all you buy is code..that links to store and download....

if go online and buy, you just pay and download.. so either way no physical copy...

there is a LOT of 2 factor and checking and double checking too along the way till downloaded .. a real PITA ..but i guess protects it for you  ...

quite good actually, on our marantz you get the choice of upmixing the pcm stream with either dolby surround or neural- x. neural X seems to give a really enveloping atmospheric mix  with me upmixing

  • For anyone else wondering:

  • Yeah I'm cool with that, plenty to work with before you'd need to consider expanding.  This is looking like a perfect Xmas present for me the kids.

Arrrrgh!  Does my head in.  I've just recently grabbed a Travelex Money card and the two-factor involved in setting up that app was a nightmare.  Unfortunately, as you say, it's a sign of the times...  🙄

@betty boop  Can you confirm what resolution and frame rate you're getting through your tv/projector when it's docked?  Is it 4K @120fps?

hi kaynin, i am only doing 4k 50/60 from sources to my projector as cable limited - its an old solid copper 4k comsol so will do 4k 50/60 and faultlessly ... i have not so far bothered with 4k 120 as yet 🙂 the word i have heard is 4k 120 isnt such a big deal anyway ...

Yeah okay, I was getting confused about whether it can do 4K @120 or not.  I read somewhere that the 120FPS is limited to the handheld screen.  I feel the ability to output 4K is the big benefit.

definiely 4k 50/60 to screens is a huge boost, I dont think the little hand held screen is 4k... think lower res... if can do 4k 120 will need to check if have a cable thats capable..

i can check via my sony oled tv next time i fire up, as that has a short solid copper ruipro feeding it... that is suitable for that sort of res and freq.

only 4k 50/60 to Sony  oled, possible I haven’t got the hdmi in on highest bandwidth input as that was only one on a90j if remember. But to be honest I am fine with 4k 50/60.

Via hand screen I checked highest is 1080p/120 from what can find 🙂

both these are are a huge jump up from original switch. Original switch was 720p on little hand screen and 1080p when docked into external screen as best.

Yeah that's what I read Al, the 120 frames relates to the handheld screen, and output to an external screen is 4K but 60 frames.  I'm with you, 60 frames at 4K is awesome.  I found it confusing though because I thought the 120 frames would be directly related to the 4K.  Thanks for confirming.

It's a very capable and well designed unit.  The game catalogue is excellent, and my home are Mario fans.  For it's faults (digital ownership for example), I think the positives outweigh them.  I was looking at other handhelds, but you just won't get the Mario carts or Super Mario Bros etc.  I think it will compliment our PS5 nicely.

yes well designed and implemented. 4-5 years since last one so glad have taken their time and come up with something decent and decent enough step from last.

we are same have an Xbox one x that’s some lovely 4k gaming and Nintendo can stand proud to same level of quality. Different strokes though the one x is more car racing flight sim etc. The Nintendo more a bit of harmless fun 🙂 plus with its little handheld console so can … take it away :D don’t have to be stuck to main system …

think will grab donkey kong made for switch 2 next :D

How's this panning out @betty boop and @Marco79?  This is still on the Chrissie list.

Any peripherals you advise?

What's the controller that comes with it like?  I'll get a second controller, one of the Switch 2 pro, but wondering if it's best to get two and just use them...

Great to hear.  I've use 8bit do controllers before and they're very well built.  I think that'll be the way to go over the makeshift controller that it comes with.

Is it a band-aid solution, or as good as a normal controller?
