quite good actually, on our marantz you get the choice of upmixing the pcm stream with either dolby surround or neural- x. neural X seems to give a really enveloping atmospheric mix  with me upmixing

  • For anyone else wondering:

  • Yeah I'm cool with that, plenty to work with before you'd need to consider expanding.  This is looking like a perfect Xmas present for me the kids.

Yep, Mr 11 is already asking for one ... His original Switch still works fine and gets heaps of use.

Is this a genuine worthwhile upgrade?

word is that internationally, its the biggest console launch in some time. sold out in most places but funnily not Oz

not sure if that helps your decision... 😬

for kids i think it depends what their friends are into, a lass at work her son flipped over night, needed PS that weekend! all his mates we're playing without him

Yep we ordered ours on jb While still can and coming tonight …

be great to see in 4k on the projector 🙂 we have Mario cart included and will get Zelda …

the new switch2 are all about visuals and faster everything …. 4k hdr and faster frame rates 🙂

I don't think Mr 11 cares for 4K and frame rates, yet, thankfully 🙂

Looks like OG Switch can remain in service for longer yet. Not jumping on the hype.

Same here, I asked this morning Mr 15 and he said it was no big deal as the original is still very much doing everything he wants and games he never got before are probably much cheaper to find now.

He tried someone else's X-Box not long ago and he said that although the graphics were really good, the gameplay was nothing to look forward to and the controls weird. Good for him and the rest of us that this is a side thing nowadays so not a pressing need/want. Mario Kart 8 still looks so nice.
But great to see that Nintendo is still doing so well with this second version.

Lol, I've been saying that about gaming for 40 years!  (Although I still get every second gen console that comes out!)

Diminished battery capacity is a real thumbs down, thanks for the comparison chart.

I'm new to the switch genre.  I run a PS5 and that's getting HEAPS of use, but my kids do love the Mario stuff.

256GB is not a lot of memory for gaming these days.  Do the games install onto the device, or is the 256GB is just for things like game save points etc.?

Internal storage of 256 GB
The internal storage of Nintendo Switch 2, where digital games and save data are stored, is 256 GB, which is 8 times the storage capacity of Nintendo Switch. For additional storage, Nintendo Switch 2 only uses microSD Express cards, which have faster data reading speeds than previous microSD models.

below illustration shows how many games can load up internally

after that like other consoles, to expand can add more space with the microsd express 🙂

Christmas come early for us (me) :D  tooo…

Just played Mario Kart with my son's Switch 2 today... epic.

And the console itself feels so so much better in your hads, and still feather light. I would have just liked an OLED screen by default.

we just got ours earlier ... its really quite a compact box .. vs your other consoles like xbox one X or playstation ...

Downloaded Zelda, that will be beautiful. The picture is pretty stunning. It detects TV is hdr and straightaway asks to do a setup where adjust a level on screen so optimised for your display … like that. Should get rid of issue for some folks that grumble too dark or too bright etc for hdr …

for this with old switch games … it’s only $20 to upgrade to latest switch 2 game versions 🙂

That’s fantastic.

What’s the surround audio like through your system?

I should add for those wondering ...

yes comes with a proper ultrahigh speed certified cable - with even QR code to verify... so hooking up to get full benefit with the high quality picture and higher frame rates etc should not be an issue.

IMG_6379.thumb.jpeg.e6326c77d540e6f563e40b8b8cfad7db.jpeg

for gaming just like the original switch, it comes with the little pairing base... with the side handles.. so either hand piece slots in to make a controller .. you can also buy additional controllers... but good to go out the box...

IMG_6378.thumb.jpeg.ae920a948f7de903d7708ca09b929a05.jpeg

the console also slots into base...

IMG_6376.thumb.jpeg.afdebe03f789e54a8dfe5079e5b13b35.jpeg

which has hdmi out, usb-c port for charging and also takes a network cable if dont want to go wifi..

once hook hdmi upto your TV/system ... get the below

IMG_6377.jpeg

all setup is well led through.. so for folks new to system its all very easy to get going ... a lot of putting in pass word and QR codes and 2 factor verification etc... but thats just in this age of security thats needed i guess ...

Those Mario Kart images look seriously good. I notice some lovely light reflections over those mushrooms, ads a lot or realism. Very nice. No wonder cat is dying to play too.

Okay, I have a real issue with this system.  The game cards don't contain the game, only a key to download the game to your console.  I know there's plenty of people who don't mind digital only copies, but plenty are like me and want to own the physical copy.  I'm in a real bind about this now.  I might just have to muse over it a little more.
