Stax Reference

Hi

Has anyone had experience with Stax Reference. Addicted to Audio have some good specials on Stax and can't decide between the SR-009 or the SR-007

  • 2 weeks later...

They are good prices, I personally bought a pair of 007’s as they have the sound that I really enjoy.

The 007’s are definitely on the warm side in comparison to the 009s which are detail monsters.

It really depends what kind of sound signature you like. I prefer the 007’s as they do it all well, with good low end, balanced mids and high end. Can get a bit spicy high mids or low treble, but they are still an e’stat and have the speed and clarity that comes with them.

They do sound different to the Lambda series, not as mid forward. But the 007’s are comfy on my head and I can listen to them for hours. They are more relaxed and I’m not hunting for the details cause they are not being shoved into my face as the 009s does.

The 007’s do want a bit more power as well, so your setup will also come into the picture.

But for the price of them I paid 300 more for a new pair than an average second hand pair I thought it was well worth it.

Another thing to consider is that according to the Stax website the 007’s have been discontinued from production. That may also play into your decision.

Hope you get a good buy while you can.

Not impressed with the sound especially but

the fabric on the headphone is crumbling ( see pic)

does that mean they are kaput?
